Your home is a great place to start when looking to sell on eBay. What you will want to do is search your home for any items that you and your family do not need or do not use any longer. These things can include books, movies, toys, clothing, home décor, and so forth.

Starting with your home, when looking for things to sell on eBay, is a great starting point for new eBay sellers. This gives you the opportunity to determine if eBay is even right for you, without having to spend money on merchandise.

Finding Things to Sell on eBay Option #2 Yard Sales

Yard sales are a great way to find things to sell on eBay. What is nice about yard sales is that you never know what you will find. With that in mind, if you do know what you would like to find, you will want to examine your newspaper classified section. Many yard sale hosts provide a summary of the thing they intend to sell.

In addition to visiting traditional yard sales, you will want to examine bag sales. Bag sales are sales in which you are able to fill up a whole shopping bag for a set price, often only $1 or $2. Many yard sale hosts choose to have bag sales towards the end of their yard sales, like either during the last few hours or on the last day. Bag sales are a great way to find things to sell on eBay that are grouped together in lots.

Finding Things to Sell on eBay Option #3 Thrift Stores

Although many individuals host yard sales when cleaning out their homes, many others do not want to deal with the hassle of hosting one. These individuals are more likely to donate their unwanted goods to a local thrift store. For that reason, you will want to visit your local thrift stores, looking for things to sell on eBay.

When shopping at your local thrift stores for things to sell on eBay, it is advised that you ask about discount or sale days. It is not uncommon for a thrift store to have a discounted day, like a 50% off day, once a week or even just once a month. This is a great opportunity for you to save even more money.

Finding Things to Sell on eBay Option #4 Traditional Retail Stores

Although traditional retail stores may not seem like a good place to find things to sell on eBay, they can be in a certain number of situations. For example, are you able to get your hands on a "hot," product? A new toy or video gaming console that is regularly sold-out can be a profitable seller on eBay.

It is also important to examine traditional sales and discounts. Many retailers discount their prices, especially during the holiday season. They may also discount merchandise that they no longer plan to carry in their stores. If you are lucky, you may be able to find discounted merchandise, which you can later sell for a profit on eBay.

Finding Things to Sell on eBay Option #5 Drop Shipping Companies

Drop shipping companies are another one of the many ways that you can find things to sell on eBay. What is nice about using drop shipping companies is that they can be convenient for you. When an order has been placed, you notify your drop shipping company and then they will ship out your merchandise for you.

Although using a drop shipping company to sell on eBay is nice and convenient for eBay sellers like you, you will want to proceed with caution. As drop shipping companies continue to increase in popularity, you may find the eBay marketplace overrun with similar products. This reduces your chance of making money. For that reason, be sure to thoroughly research a drop shipping company and the eBay website before making your decision.

Finding Things to Sell on eBay Option #6 Wholesale Suppliers

If the idea of drop shipping sounds nice to you, but if you would like to have more control, you may want to examine traditional wholesale suppliers. Wholesale suppliers are companies who sell bulk merchandise to retailers and individuals like you. You are often given a discounted price for making your purchase in the form of a wholesale purchase.

Although some wholesale suppliers do double as drop shipping companies, you should be able to find those who will ship your merchandise directly to you. This is nice if you are looking to have control over the things that you choose to sell on eBay.

The Importance of Making Your eBay Auctions Standout (In a Good Way)

As previously stated, eBay has increased in popularity among both eBay buyers and eBay sellers. This is good for you, but it also means more competition. What you will want to do, as an eBay seller, is make your eBay auctions stand out, but in a good way. You will want eBay buyers to click on your eBay auction listings instead of the competition's.

For more ways on how to make your eBay auctions standout, please continue reading on.

Selling on eBay Tip #1 Choose Your eBay Auction Headlines Carefully

Your eBay auction headline is one of the most important parts of selling on eBay. Your eBay auction headline is what prospective buyers will see when they perform an eBay search. Your headline also has an impact on whether or not your eBay auction page will be viewed.

When developing your eBay headline, be sure to be direct and too the point. Although you are limited on space, you will want to include as much information as possible.

If you are selling a toy, be sure to include the name brand of the toy in question, write toddler or infant for an age range, and state whether the toy is new or used. For clothing, be sure to state the size in your eBay auction headline.

Selling on eBay Tip #2 Consider Gallery Pictures

In keeping with your eBay auction headline, gallery pictures can be a part of that headline. When you choose to have a gallery picture displayed that picture will appear next to your eBay auction headline. eBay buyers are more likely click on an eBay auction page when they are first able to see a picture, through the posting of a gallery picture.

The only downside to gallery pictures is that they do cost extra. If you post a lot of auctions on eBay this expense can add up overtime. With that in mind, be on the lookout for any special deals on eBay. They are known to offer special deals on occasion, such as free or reduced eBay fees, including gallery picture fees.

Selling on eBay Tip #3 Write Detailed eBay Auction Descriptions

Before buying anything on eBay, consumers often want to know as much about the product in question. That is just one of the many reasons why your eBay auction descriptions should be detailed.

When writing your eBay auction descriptions, you may first want to type them up and proofread them in a program, such as Microsoft Word. This will give you the opportunity to ensure no mistakes or errors are made. This will help to improve your professionalism. When you are done, simply copy and paste your eBay auction description into eBay's provided box.

Also, be sure to make your eBay auction descriptions easy to read. Make sure the font is easy to read, in both style and size. You can use bold print to highlight any important points. Be sure; however, to keep your paragraphs short.

Selling on eBay Tip #4 Clear Pictures

Pictures are an important component of selling on eBay, as most consumers will not buy a product without first seeing it. Before posting pictures on eBay, be sure to view them. Are they easy to see? Are they light enough or too dark?

When posting pictures with your eBay auctions, eBay provides you with one free picture. However, one picture isn't always enough. For instance, if you decide to list multiple items in the form of an eBay auction lot, you may need to have multiple pictures. In these instances, you will want to examine online photo sharing websites. Many are free to use and they should provide you a code that you can use to imbed in your eBay auction descriptions. This allows you to post extra pictures free of charge.

Selling on eBay Tip #5 Offer Free or Discounted Shipping

Free or discounted shipping is more likely to get your eBay auctions noticed. Even if you are unable to or choose not to offer free or discounted shipping, you will at least want to be reasonable with your fees. If you examine the eBay website, it is not uncommon to find high shipping fees. Most eBay buyers will avoid these types of eBay auctions.

The Cost of Selling on eBay

As it was previously stated, it does cost money to sell on eBay. Although these fees can add up overtime, many eBay sellers are still able to make a profit. For information on how you can do so, please continue reading on.

Reduce Your eBay Fees Tip #1

The first thing that you will want to do, before you start to sell on eBay, is examine the eBay fees. This is easy to do on the eBay website. You will want to perform a help search with the phrase "eBay fees." You should then find a chart that outlines the eBay insertion fees, also commonly referred to as listing fees, and the final value fees. Although you do not have much control over the eBay finial value fees, you do over the listing fees.

When examining the eBay fees for inserting an eBay auction on their website, you will see that they currently charge .60 cents for items that are listed between $10.00 and $24.99. On the other hand, you are charged $1.20 for items that are listed between $25.00 and $49.99. If you planned to sell something on eBay for $25, you may want to, instead, list your item for $24.99. This will end up saving you .60 cents in fees alone. Although this savings is not large, it can add up overtime.

***Note: The eBay fees listed above were outlined on the eBay website on December 9, 2007. eBay has the right to increase their fees as they see fit; therefore, the fees outlined above may change. I will try and make adjustments if they do.

Reduce Your eBay Fees Tip #2 Use Photo Sharing Websites

As previously stated, eBay allows you one free picture per each eBay auction listing. If one picture is not enough, you may want to turn to photo sharing websites. In the past, I used Photo Bucket.

Online photo sharing websites allow you to upload your pictures to their websites. Many will then provide you with a specific code to use in your eBay auctions. This code will need to be copied into your eBay auction description. If properly done, your extra pictures should appear on your eBay auction page, but you aren't charged the eBay fees for extra pictures.

Reduce Your eBay Fees Tip #3 Limit Your Use of Extras

When selling on eBay, you will find that they offer a number of extra services, for an additional fee. These extra services are known as listing upgrades. Popular listing upgrade options include gallery pictures, subtitles, bold, and gift services, just to name a few.

As previously stated, a gallery picture can help to get your eBay auction listings noticed, as you receive a picture directly next to your eBay auction headline. Although this listing upgrade can be considered a wise investment, you may want to save your money on many of the other ones.

For example, if you would like to give your eBay buyers the option of having their purchases gift wrapped, you can pay extra to have a gift wrap icon appear next to your eBay auction headline. Although this can be considered a wise investment during the holidays, you may simply want to mention that you would be wiling to gift wrap all purchases in your eBay auction description. This approach is free.

The Importance of Pictures When Selling on eBay

If you are looking to make money selling on eBay, it is extremely important to have pictures of what you are selling. In fact, did you know that most eBay buyers will not buy something that they cannot see for their own eyes? Most will not and that is why all of your eBay auctions should have pictures with them.

As nice as it is to hear that you should have pictures posted in all of your eBay auction listings, you may not own a digital camera. Although most digital cameras are affordably priced today, you still may not have enough money to spent $100 or more. If that is the case, checkout your local retail stores, like Wal-Mart. Many have extremely cheap digital cameras, for like around $20. Although these cameras will not come with a display screen and many may not have a flash, you can still use them to take pictures.

As an added tip, try to save a little bit of money from what you do make on eBay to buy a better digital camera for later on.

The Importance of Outlining Your Shipping

If you are new to selling on eBay, you may not know the importance of outlining your shipping costs in your eBay auctions. Doing so, however, is important to your success.

One of the many reasons why it is important for you to outline the cost of shipping is because many of the eBay sellers who do not do so often end up overcharging their customers. This has lead to many shoppers being cautious when using the eBay website. In fact, many will not buy your items unless they know, upfront, how much they will have to pay in shipping.

Another one of the many reasons why you are encouraged to outline the cost of shipping in your eBay auctions is because it is easy to do so. The eBay websites has a number of shipping calculator tools that you can use. For example, you can enter in the weight of your package and its sizes to calculate the cost of shipping to charge your buyers with a flat rate. If you would like to charge a more accurate amount of shipping, let all prospective buyers calculate their own shipping. As long you enter in the weight of your package and its size, all prospective eBay buyers should be able to calculate the cost of shipping with their zip code.
