Bear Grylls Survival Gear: Are You Prepared?
Ranked #6,259 in Sports & Recreation, #154,753 overall
Who Is Bear Grylls?
He's a hardcore survivalist to the extreme and he's done everything from running through a forest fire to eating snakes and bugs to drinking his own urine.
In May of 1998, Grylls became the youngest Brit to scale Mt. Everest. He was 23 and just 18 months before he'd been hospitalized with a broken back. He'd crushed 3 vertebrae in a skydiving accident and, at the time, doctors feared ha may never walk again.
Since then he's gone on to conquer almost every square inch of uninhabitable, unreachable space on Earth. He's paramotored over Angel Falls, the highest waterfall on Earth. He's hosted a dinner party in a hot air balloon at 25,000 feet - whiled dressed in a tux and oxygen tank. He's traveled Antarctica and crossed the Northwest Passage in an inflatable boat. He catches 20-pound catfish with his bare hands, eats deer droppings, wrestles alligators and has used a seal carcass for a wetsuit.
While most people would never picture themselves in a scenario where they would have to use a dead sheep for a sleeping bag or eat elephant dung to survive, the simple truth is: You just never know when disaster will strike. You need to be prepared for anything.
Are You Prepared To Survive?
Surviving in some of the most remote corners of the world requires skill, knowledge and a lot of preparation. You don't just walk into the Amazon rainforest one day and hope to walk out the other side alive without a lot of careful planning. One would hope that we'd never find ourselves in the middle of that rainforest unless it was something we really wanted to do. But you just never know, do you?
These days we have daily threats of terrorism, no longer confined to just pockets here and there. It's a global threat now.
And as the world population continues to expand we're pushing outward into corners of the Earth where no man has ever lived before. We're traveling farther and wider, for work, for pleasure, for family and friends, and even if you live in a relatively safe area now, you're bound to end up in an area prone to some type of natural disaster at some point in your life.
Even if you plan to stay tucked up safe in your bed for the next 50 years, you still need to be prepared for disaster. It may not be imminent, but it's always a possibility.

What If The Unthinkable Happens?
Let's face it - most of us are never going to find ourselves in extreme situations like we see Grylls experience every week on his television program. But what if....?
What if you're hiking some day and you wander off the trail, just for a peek at a wildflower, and end up getting yourself all turned around and lost?
What if you're riding your favorite back trail some sunny afternoon and you take a spill - with no one around to see it happen?
What if your car skids out of control on a lonely country road and you roll down an embankment?
We don't necessarily consider these events to be disasters but they all happen every day and they can all be potentially life threatening situations. You may be wandering in those woods for a few hours, you may be lying by the side of that trail for a day. You might be hidden in a ravine, stuck in your car for days.
The best thing you can do to assure the safety of yourself and your family is to take a few minutes and make some basic preparations for emergencies.

- I love hiking and being outdoors, so naturally also enjoy these types of shows. I kind of like Les Stroud, the Survivorman, better because it is more practical, but Bear does some really cool stuff too and, after-all, it is an entertainment show!
