Fabrics

Choose natural cotton fabrics for babies and children; flannel, seersucker, poplin, gingham and percale are examples. Wash the fabric before cutting in case of shrinkage. Natural cotton may need to be ironed after it has been washed. If the fabric is soft, lay a towel on top before ironing.

Stuffing

The most popular stuffing used is polyester toy filling. It is a lightweight synthetic which makes it suitable for toys. There is now eco-friendly stuffing available such as cotton, wool and hemp. Organic stuffing does not have pesticide residue which can be harmful to your child. It is very important not to use any type of pellets for stuffing. If any escape from the seams, they could choke the child. Always sew a double seam to prevent stuffing from escaping through the seams.
