JOHN LENNON: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION OF ARTWORKS
Liverpool will celebrate being awarded European Capital of Culture this year with artwork by one of its most famous sons being shown in the capital. The exhibition will feature the Complete Collection of John Lennon's artwork for the first time in their entirety in Liverpool. The exhibition runs at the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo building from 23 May until 2 June, before embarking on a museum tour of Germany.

Jonathan Poole, exhibition organizer, comments:
"It is very exciting to have the Complete Collection of Lennon's work, and fitting that it should be showcased in his home city, during a year highlighting Liverpool's cultural position in Europe. I began my career exhibiting works by John Lennon and, personally, I am a huge fan of his works. This exhibition gives people the chance to see a different side of John in terms of his artistry and also his unique personality."

Although best known as a musician, art was also a huge part of John's life and he attended the Liverpool School of Art from 1957-1960, before becoming part of one of the most famous bands of all time.

The collection features works by Lennon dating from 1968 until his untimely death in 1980 and features fifteen original drawings. This exhibition has been organised in conjunction with Yoko Ono's company, Bag One and demonstrates the various styles used by John Lennon to express his imaginative artistic style.

Exhibition details:
The Liverpool Daily Post and Echo offices
Old Hall Street, Liverpool, L69 3EB, UK (Map here).
23 May 2008 - 2 June 2008.
Monday- Friday, midday - 8:00pm.

Paul McCartney is Dead

Yeah, he finally came clean a couple of years ago. It was Brian's idea.

Here is Paul is dead article from Wikipedia

I wrote my own article on the topic and it is posted at my Beatle-fans.com

"Paul is dead" is an urban legend alleging that Paul McCartney of The Beatles died in 1966 and was replaced by a look-alike and sound-alike.

The legend hinges on supposed hints among the Beatles' many recordings and presumed to be deliberately placed by The Beatles or others. Hundreds have been cited at various times; they include statements heard when a song is played backwards, symbolic interpretations of obscure lyrics, and ambiguous imagery on album covers. Some of these have become well known, such as the fact that on the cover of Abbey Road, McCartney is the only barefooted Beatle and is out of step with the others.

It is often unclear how many proponents of this story spread it as a joke, as opposed to a real conspiracy theory. The rumour has been the subject of much sociological examination, since its development, growth, and rebuttal took place very publicly.

A claim that a hoax was perpetrated by The Beatles themselves, either as a joke or to stimulate record sales, has been denied by the band members.

I'm a die-hard Beatles fan, too! I got hooked up with the Fab Four when I was in High School in 1980 & that's when I started learning to play the guitar. If I can remember it right, the first piece I practiced on my axe was Helter Skelter! What a way to start learning! HAHAHAHA! and since then, up to now, I'm still hooked up with them and that's why, I'm grateful for this lens of yours. Now, I can't wait to go to beatle-fans.com! Thanks for the info! This lens sure is worth 5 stars and to be "favorited"!

Early Beatles Trivia

Early Beatles Trivia
By Johnny Moon

1. John Lennon & Paul McCartney met for the first time on July 6, 1957.

2. The Beatles had a few names before settling on The Beatles including "Johnny and the Moondogs" and "The Silver Beetles"

3. The name "Beetles" was originally conceived as a tribute to name of Buddy Holly's band The Crickets.

4. Beetles was changed to Beatles in 1961. "Beat" like the beat of a drum. Paul McCartney has said this was his idea.

5. Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) joined the band in 1962.

6. The Beatles first arrived in the United States on February 7, 1964.

7. The Beatles made their first live appearance in the United States on The Ed Sullivan Show in the theater where David Letterman's "Late Show" is now recorded on February 9, 1964.

8. On February 10th (the morning after their historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show) many newspapers ran dismissive stores about The Beatles claiming that they were nothing but a fad. Think about this the next time you believe something written in the newspaper.

9. On April 4, 1964 The Beatles occupied the first 5 positions on the US singles charts. No other band or singer has ever come close to equaling this feat.

10. The A Hard Day's Night movie was released in the UK on June 6, 1964.

11. The Beatles had 6 #1 US singles in 1964. They also had 3 more songs which reached #2 or #3.

12. The Beatles had 3 #1 US albums in 1964.

13. The Beatles had 6 #1 UK singles in 1963 & 1964.

14. The Beatles had 4 #1 UK albums in 1963 & 1964.

15. The Beatles first 2 UK singles reached #17 and #2 respectively. "Love Me Do" & "Please Please Me."

16. The Beatles early songs were either covers or songs written by John Lennon & Paul McCartney as a duo. Later they would continue to credit all of their songs as Lennon/McCartney despite the fact that they were often written with very little (and sometimes no) contribution from the other writer.
