The Beatles Children : John, Paul, George and Ringo's Kids

Ranked #634 in Music, #18,698 overall

Rockstar spawn of the highest degree.

For a Beatle kid, leading a normal life is definitely a tall order - just ask John, Paul, George, and Ringo's children. All of them have had to live under a microscope since the day they were born. And if by chance they decide to pursue a career in music, they will each have to deal with mostly harsh and unfair comparisons to their enormously successful musician dads. (Anyone, even their sons and daughters, will pale in comparison to rock legends, right?)

But as you will see in a while, all of the Beatles children have managed to lead -- if not normal -- exemplary lives despite being in the shadows of their famous fathers by default. Read on to learn more about the Lennons, McCartneys, Harrisons, and Starkeys.

Before anything,

let's settle this once and for all.

John Lennon and sons Julian and Sean

Julian and Sean Lennon

The Lennon brothers.

John Charles Julian Lennon (born 8 April 1963), known usually as Julian Lennon, is the first son of Beatle John Lennon and is a singer, songwriter and musician. He is the only child of Lennon's first marriage to Cynthia Powell, and his godfather was Beatles' manager Brian Epstein. He was named after John Lennon's late mother, Julia.

Julian premiered as a recording artist with the release of his 1984 album Valotte. This was soon followed by The Secret Value of Daydreaming (1986), Mr. Jordan (1989), Help Yourself (1991), and Photograph Smile (1998), producing the hits "Too Late For Goodbyes", "Stick Around", and "Saltwater".

In 2002, Julian recorded a version of the Beatles' classic "When I'm Sixty-Four", a song from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band primarily written and sung by McCartney, although as was customary on all Beatles compositions of either author, John Lennon was credited as co-writer). His sixth album, Everything Changes, is complete and will be released in early 2010.

Sean Taro Ono Lennon (born October 9, 1975), meanwhile, is John's son from his marriage to Yoko Ono and is a singer, songwriter, musician and actor. Sean debuted as a musician with his first full-length studio album "Into the Sun" in 1998 and, subsequently "Friendly Fire" in 2006. In between the releases of his albums, he would tour with the band Cibo Matto (of which he was part of) and collaborated with various bands and artists as a session musician and producer. In 2009, he produced "Between My Head and the Sky", the album of his mother's Plastic Ono Band and has been busy touring with her. Expanding on his musical output even further Sean has also stepped into the world of film scores with "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead" (2009).

Julian and Sean have always been close when they were young but they drifted apart sometime in the late 90s. They now have a much-publicized renewed relationship, visiting one another on tours, and are constantly seen together.

Watch and listen to Julian Lennon's "Too Late For Goodbyes"

A single off his 1984 album "Valotte"

The catchy "Too Late For Goodbyes" is the second single from Julian Lennon's 1984 album Valotte and is one of my favorite songs by him. It features the harmonica of Jean "Toots" Thielemans, and it was a top-ten hit in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts in late-March of 1985, peaking at number five and also reaching number six in the UK Singles Chart.

Watch and listen to Sean Lennon performing "On Again, Off Again"

A song off his second album "Friendly Fire"

"On Again, Off Again" is IMHO one of Sean's most beautiful songs and is my personal favorite. It's a single off his second studio album Friendly Fire. The album was released on October 3, 2006 by Capitol Records in the U.S. (see 2006 in music) and Parlophone in the UK (see 2006 in British music). In the United States, the album reached #152 in the Billboard 200 chart and #5 in the Top Heatseekers chart. See him perform an acoustic version of the song live below.

Paul and Linda McCartney with kids Heather and Mary.

Heather, Mary, Stella, James, and Beatrice McCartney

The McCartney Siblings

Heather McCartney Heather Louise McCartney (née See) was born December 31,1962 in Tucson, Arizona to rock photographer Linda Eastman and her first husband Joseph Melville See Jr., an American geologist. Her parents divorced after only eighteen months of marriage. After raising her daughter on her own in New York City for several years, Linda married Sir Paul McCartney of The Beatles in 1969 when Heather was six. Paul adopted her legally and loves her as his own.

Heather took up printing at the Photographers' Workshop in Covent Garden and won the Young Black and White Printer of the Year Award. Her success encouraged her to go on to art college where she discovered a talent for pottery. In 1999, she unveiled a line of houseware products in Atlanta, Georgia called the Heather McCartney Houseware Collection. To date, Heather keeps a low profile but remains a prominent potter and designer, with exhibitions in New York City, Phoenix, Tokyo, Paris and Sydney, and has been described by Wedgewood as "one of Britain's most exciting new talents."

Mary Anna McCartney (born in London on 28 August 1969) is a photographer and is Sir Paul's first child with Linda. Following in the footsteps of her mother, Mary became a professional photographer. She was photo editor for the music-book publisher Omnibus Press and in 1992 began taking photographs professionally, specializing in portrait and fashion photography. Mary's most well-known photographs are those of former prime minister Tony Blair and his wife with their fourth child, and the last photographs taken of her mother, three weeks before her death. McCartney has also taken portraits of Sam Taylor-Wood, Ralph Fiennes, Jude Law, and of her sister Stella, who is a fashion designer.

In 2001, Mary produced the television documentary Wingspan, a story of her father's post-Beatles musical career, focusing on her parents' band Wings. She also runs the picture department at her father's company, MPL Communications.

Stella Nina McCartney (born 13 September 1971), a well-known fashion designer with her own label, is Sir Paul and Linda's second child. As a young girl, Stella travelled the globe with her parents and their pop group Wings, along with her siblings. According to her father, the name Wings was inspired by Stella's difficult birth. As his daughter was being born by emergency caesarean section, Paul sat outside the operating room and prayed that she be born "on the wings of an angel."

Stella became interested designing clothes at age 12 when she made her first jacket. Three years later, she interned for Christian Lacroix and then later studied her foundation at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in the early 1990s. The rest as they say is history.

A lacto-ovo-vegetarian, Stella does not use fur or leather in her designs and supports PETA. Her father is also known for supporting PETA by protesting against designers who use animal fur and those who wear it. Stella does use wool, silk, and other animal-derived fabrics in her designs.

James McCartney (born 12 September 1977) is a musician, songwriter and sculptor, living in London, England. He is most notable in the music business for playing guitar and drums as well as co-writing a few songs on some of his father's solo albums, including Flaming Pie (1997) and Driving Rain (2001). On Flaming Pie, he has an electric guitar solo on the track "Heaven on a Sunday." On Driving Rain, he co-wrote the songs "Spinning On An Axis" and "Back In The Sunshine Again" with his father, and played percussion on the former track and guitar on the latter. He also plays lead guitar on his mother's posthumously released solo album, Wide Prairie.

James is currently recording a solo album with his father's help. He made his his U.S. debut, performing November 14, 2009 at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, during the Fourth Annual David Lynch Weekend for World Peace and Meditation in Fairfield, Iowa.

Beatrice Milly McCartney (born October 28, 2003) is Sir Paul McCartney's youngest daughter and his firstborn to second (and now ex) wife Heather Mills.

George, Olivia, and Dhani Harrison

Dhani Harrison

George's only son.

Dhani Harrison (born 1 August 1978) is a musician and the son of George Harrison to Olivia Trinidad Arias. Dhani attended Badgemore Primary school in Henley-on-Thames, then Dolphin School near Twyford, a Montessori school. He later attended Shiplake College, also near Henley, where he showed a keen interest in rowing. Harrison is an alumnus of Brown University, where he studied physics and industrial design. After graduating from university, Harrison pursued a career as an aerodynamicist.

Dhani premiered as a professional musician after his father's passing in November 2001 when he entered the studio to complete his father's work on his final album "Brainwashed." Dhani eventually formed his own band thenewno2 in 2006 and is currently touring with them to promote their debut album "You Are Here".

Dhani bears a very strong resemblance to his father, causing George to exclaim "My son looks more like George Harrison than I do!"

Of his music, "There's reference to everything he's done in everything that I've done because he's my dad, we were best friends, we grew up playing music together," Dhani says. "And if anyone hasn't been influenced by them [The Beatles] at some point, they're probably lying." (source)

Dhani's band, thenewno2's debut album "You Are Here"

You Are Here is the debut album by thenewno2. It was released online on 1 August 2008, and in stores on 31 March 2009. The entire album was written, produced and performed by Dhani Harrison and Oliver Hecks.

Of all the albums that rock-star spawn have released lately, singer-guitarist Dhani Harrison's first full-length may be the most experimental. There's no denying the vocal and melodic similarities between his duo Thenewno2 and his late father, George Harrison. But on You Are Here, Harrison and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Hecks take what they've borrowed from the Beatles, Brian Eno and Massive Attack in new directions. The result is a subtle mix of gentle vocals and electronics, with layered beats, throbbing bass and occasional wailing guitar. (Rolling Stone)

Ringo, his first wife Maureen and kids Zak, Jason, and Lee

Zak, Jason, and Lee

The Starkey siblings.

Zak Starkey, (born 13 September 1965) is an English drummer, well-known as the first child of The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) and his first wife Maureen Cox. Starkey is mostly noted for his unofficial membership in The Who, since 1994. Starkey is the fourth drummer for the rock band The Who, playing with them live and occasionally in the studio. He is also known as being the third drummer of English rock band Oasis until summer 2008. Starkey has also worked on session and touring basis with artists including: Johnny Marr, Paul Weller, The Icicle Works, the Waterboys, ASAP and the Lightning Seeds.

Like his elder brother, Jason Starkey (born 19 August ,1967) was born in Queen Charlotte's Hospital in Hammersmith, London. In later years Jason worked in the music industry, becoming a road manager and drummer. He once described his famous family as a burden, saying: "Being Ringo Starr's son is the biggest drag of my life. It's a total pain."

In 1987 Jason Starkey was fined £125 after being caught stealing a car stereo, and two years later appeared twice in court on drugs charges. He played in a succession of bands including Buddy Curtis and the Grasshoppers, The People's Friend, Empire Of Sponge, and with his brother Zak, Musty Jack Sponge and the Exploding Nudists.

Despite his earlier problems with drugs and the law, Jason settled down in England with his wife Flora and two sons Louie and Sonny.

Lee Parkin Starkey (born November 11, 1970) is Ringo and Maureen's third child and only daughter and was born just months after The Beatles had broken up.

Lee took up drama, make-up arts, and worked at Tower Records and a Hard Rock cafe and even co-starred in a car commercial with her famous dad. It was only in 1991 when she opened a clothing boutique called Planet Alice with friend Christian Paris that she realized that fashion was her true calling.

Lee continued as a fashion designer after the shop's closure but her career came to a stand still when her mother Maureen was diagnosed with leukemia. She stayed beside and cared for her mom until the moment of her passing. In August of 1995, Lee herself was diagnosed with brain tumor. After a series of treatments, she fell in the clear by 2001 and is currently a make up artist and a fledging fashion designer. She has been seen at her brothers' concerts, Stella McCartney's fashion shows, and other charitable events while keeping a private profile.
