secondly the argument is the greates, not the greatest Rock band, pop band or whoever etc etc its the "greatest" and so the greatest means theres no one better and there has never been anyone greater than the beatles. Not before or since has anyone changed the face of music more than beatles and that the term "changed the woorld" gets thrown about far too often in society but where the beatles are concerned it is fact and truth they not only changed music but changed that particular generation of kids, hairstyles, fashion and the way buisness ran. plus it makes it even more obvious whos better when u take into the account of usualy people wud argue about bands frm diff eras and what they achieved in that era and weigh up and compare. the beatles and the stones were frm the same fuckin era and the beatles were the biggest band in the world which means at the time they were greater. Plus the fact that the rolling stones have been pathetic since the turn of the late 80s and were at ther peak in the 60s says it all when the beatles were casting a shaow over them. Simple fact is that altho the rolling stones were a brilliant rock n roll band in the 60s and 70s they have been caricatures of themselves ever since, the beatles music however still stands up through each and every decade and will continue to inspire more and more kids no matter what generation.

Anyways, I'm gonna skip the part where I talk about how much more revolutionary the Beatles were than the stones, and I'll also skip all those stories about the Beatles upstaging the stones. Here is the bottom line. The Beatles were made up of three of the best musical icons of all time, and also one very skilled drummer. The stones happen to be one of my favorites, but have nothing on the Beatles.

If it was 'Best Band In The World', the debate would be much closer. But seeing as it is 'Best ''ROCK'' Band In The World', title has to go to the Stones. The two bands are neck and neck for the amount of influence they have had on later bands, but when considering 'rock', the Stones had it by a mile. The Beatles were a much more watered down rock and roll band, even leaning towards pop. The Rolling Stones never lost they're hard driven rock and roll music and lifestyle. Plus, they're still going over 40 years later. That obviously says something.
All my respects to the beatles though, because they were an AMAZING band!

I would say the Rolling Stones are the Greatest Rock Band in the world for a number of reasons: The Stones have a record number of top 40 hit songs- a record number of consecutive # 1 albums- best selling rock DVD ever (Four Flicks sold x 10 platinum- most enduring band- have garnered more publicity than any other rock band, and the Rolling Stones are the most successful touring band of all-time (A Bigger Bang alone made $550,000,000,). Critics tend to over-look that incredible feat!
I consider the Beatles to be a great pop group. Yes, The Beatles sold tons of records too, but the Stones music is still current. The Beatles music is somewhat dated.
