The Beau Brummels was an American Rock Band formed in San Francisco in 1964. The group was a British Invasion influenced pop-rock outfit that featured the excellent songwriting of singer/guitarist Ron Elliott and the unique vocals of Sal Valentino. This band initially made music that was considered a blend of Beat and Folk. With the British sounding name and the music style, this group drew the obvious comparison to The Beatles. Not a bad thing.

I must admit that I believed that the band, Beau Brummels, was from England. I do remember this song and can sing along. I do not remember seeing them on Shindig but I do remember watching the show all the time!

Yep, the musical group took the name from the Brit, Beau Brummell (1778-1840). This British Mr. Brummell inspired mens fashions in Regency England. He was known for making the suit and tie a popular style. The Regency Era in England was known for being one of excess. For example, the tie worn with a suit had an elaborately tied knot. He claimed to take five hours to dress, and recommended that boots be polished with champagne. Think: Over the top extravagance! It helped get one noticed in a time when The Beatles and the British Invasion of the 1960's were popular. Another reason, the alphabet! Their albums and records would be found just behind the music of the Beatles!

I was a teen during this age. In my opinion, so much happened during this decade that is still influencing life in the USA and the world today. Who would have ever thought that the Beatles would become such icons? Did we really think that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones would still be alive? No one who was young in the 60's will ever forget the VietNam war and the protests that eventually brought it to an end. These protests probably influenced how citizens of the US still feel about fighting in other countries. Protests: one of the privileges of living in the USA--Freedom of Speech!
