Historic Beaufort

On a recent trip south we took a side trip to the beautiful town of Beaufort, South Carolina to meet up with some friends. We stayed at the cottage of the Rhett House Inn, a delightful Bed&Breakfast just a couple of blocks from the historic downtown area.

We found the town of Beaufort to be a charming southern town, with streets lined with spanish moss covered live oak trees. We walked to the historic downtown area and enjoyed the shops and the friendly people. The downtown area is just across from the waterfront, where there is a lovely park and a nice variety of restaurants overlooking the water.

In this lens, I will share some of my photographs of our stay and also some of the links I used in planning our getaway.

St. Helena's Episcopal Church

historic church

This historic church was first opened in 1724. During the civil war the church was used as a hospital and some of the tombstones were used as operating tables.

This church was just across the street from the Rhett House Cottage where we were staying. it is surrounded by a fascinating old brick wall and inside the wall and all around the church is the cemetery. There are many tombstones from the Civil War era.

Beaufort Waterfront

shops, restaurants, and relaxation

The Beaufort waterfront was a wonderful place to take a stroll or just sit in some of the big wooden swings and enjoy the peace and beauty of the water.
