The History of Tiaras
The Poltimore Tiara
Princess Margaret on her wedding day...

Created by the famed jewelers Garrards in 1870 for the wife of Lord Poltimore, this tiara was famous for being worn by HRH Princess Margaret on her wedding day. Overwhelmed by all her royal knick-knacks, the children of the late Princess, Viscount Linley and Lady Sarah Chatto, sold their mother's bridal tiara at an auction at Christie's. Reportedly, it fetched a whooping $1,704,600 on June 13/14th, 2006.
Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara
The 'Girls of Great Britain and Ireland' tiara was given to Queen Mary as a wedding present in 1893 and she in turn passed it on to her granddaughter, the future Queen Elizabeth II, on her wedding day. The tiara was described as "a diamond festoon-and-scroll design surmounted by nine large oriental pearls on diamond spikes and set on a bandeau base of alternate round and lozenge collets between two plain bands of diamonds".

Burmese Ruby Tiara
The Queen's good luck charm?

Queen Elizabeth had this stunning tiara designed in 1973. The design is in the form of a wreath of roses, with clusters of rubies in the center of each flower, and petals made of brilliant diamonds. The 96 rubies set into the tiara were a present from the Burmese people, and represent the number of diseases that they believe can afflict the human body. They credit the ruby with prophylactic powers guarding the wearer not only against illness, but also against evil. Considering her sons' messy affair and divorce, Princess Diana's death, and large parts of Buckingham Palace destroyed by fire, she might have been better off with a lucky rabbit's foot.

- I remember visiting where the crowns were on display in Europe. They were more beautiful in person.
