What a fun and educational lens! I've always been fascinated by beavers. I probably would have been a mountain man, if I'd been born a 130 years earlier! ;-)

You know the beaver is Canada's numero uno animal! I'm just glad they didn't put it on our flag.

it's great to "use" beavers to talk also about water. It's a precious resource, and it's important to let children understand how animals use it (also changing the landscape!)

Evelyn you are inspirational! I saw a beaver dam once when I was horseriding in Washington state but sadly it was abandoned. I would love to see them in the wild. I believe they may be being reintroduced into the wild in the UK.

Lensrolled to my wild life lens and blessings to you!

This is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in or teaching children about beavers. It shows a lot of work. It also ought to show some of the reasons many of us like homeschooling.

Very nice! We are big fans of Thronton Burgess books. They are in the public domain, you know, and can be accessed for free at many sites. Our favorite is the Baldwin Project.

Great learning tool you've created. I spend a lot of time in the woods and come across the work of beavers all the time. It is amazing how busy they are. We use beaver dams as bridges. We fish over beaver dens.
  • naturegirl7 Oct 26, 2008 @ 3:49 pm | delete
Great lens. I'm lensrolling it to Creatures of the night. Welcome to the Naturally Native Squids group. Don't forget to add your lens links to the appropriate plexos and vote for them.
  • groovyoldlady Oct 21, 2008 @ 10:52 am | delete
Ya know...The only place I've ever actually seen a Beaver dam was IN Missouri. I know we have 'em in Maine, but the woods are so thick we rarely get into good beaver observation areas.
  • The_Homeopath Oct 14, 2008 @ 7:35 pm | delete
For several years I conducted beaver hikes up near Mt. Evans for 6th graders. I love these guys, especially when all of a sudden we'd here a SLAP as their tails hit the water when they took a dive.
