Why Should You Go Veggie?
There are so many good reasons...
1. Save Animals - 850,000,000 animals are killed every year in the UK alone (3 million a day), for eating. Plus hundreds of millions of fish. By going veggie you can help stop the suffering and death.2. Save the Planet - Meat consumption is killing our Earth, Rainforests are being destroyed for grazing space. Crops are being grown to feed farmed animals. This is far less efficient than eating the crops ourselves. Our seas are being ruined as we continue to overfish and meat production contributes to global warming.
3. Save Other People - Did you know that one third of the world's farmed grain is fed to animals and over 750 million people are starving. A meat based diet can not feed everyone, but a veggie one can!
4. Save Your Health - Vegetarians are less likely to suffer from disease and obesity and are more likely to live a long and healthy life than meat eaters - Score!
That's 4 fantastic reasons to go veggie!

Love Your Friends, Don't Eat Them...
Your New Year's Resolution - Scratch a Pig on the Belly

Farmed animals are often written off as just commodities, available for us humans to use as we will, but they are really very complex characters and if you give them a chance they will prove that to you.
Did you know?
Pigs just love to be scratched on the belly. They will roll over like a dog.
Spend a little time with a chicken and she will come to love her cuddles.
Do you like spending time with horses? Well cows are just as cool. They can love to playfully butt you with their big old head and develop strong emotional attachments to people and other animals.
Sheep are not stupid! They can recognize over 500 human faces. How many sheep faces could you recognize?
Turkeys are so friendly when given a chance. When I was helping at an animal shelter one particular turkey used to follow me around everywhere.
Every single farmed animals can become attached to people and animals just like a dog. Every single farmed animal has emotions. They can suffer. They can feel pain. Every single farmed animals is an individual who deserves a chance.
Come on Guys Give Peas a Chance! Go Veggie!
Do Animals Really Suffer to Make Meat?
They sure do folks. Read on to find out more...
It is not just the cruel death, that is the problem with meat, it is the way the animals are treated before they get slaughtered. The aim of every farm is to make profit and sadly, the animals suffer so that people can make money. In factory farms animals are kept so crowded together that it is impossible for them to exhibit any form of natural behavior. Some are crushed to death and others are unable to reach water.
Farmers do not want animals to burn off energy, as this would mean they may lose weight and there would be less meat, so many animals are kept confined and barely able to turn around.
Every single type of meat demonstrates its own methods of cruelty, torture and eventual death, so perhaps we cannot cover them all here. If you would like to know more check out some of the websites I recommend. You will find a lot more information.
Once you are informed there is no way you will want to continue eating meat.
Trust me! I ate meat until I was 10 and then I got informed and everything changed.

How Do I Go Veggie?
Ok so your sold, now you need some guidance. Here it is...

Ok, let's throw those preconceptions out the window. Becoming a veggie is easy and you will not be missing out. Far from it, you will be eating much better than your meat eating friends.
So a vegetarian is someone who doesn't eat meat, fish or any slaughterhouse products (such as gelatin). A lot of the things you already have in your cupboard are probably veggie. Think about it...noodles, pasta, margarine, bread, potatoes, chips, frozen veg, fresh veg, fruit, spices, flour. I mean you could probably get started with that. But a little shopping will take you to another level entirely.
Think of your fave foods - pizza, pasta, burgers, bacon, jacket potatoes, curry. Well guess what...you can still eat them all. The only difference is your food will not have meat in it. Most supermarkets sell veggie sausages, burgers, bacon and lots more and you can make veggie alternatives to nearly every meal out there. It's true you can even make shepherds pie (meatless).
You can buy nearly everything ready made,or you can grab a veggie cook book (there are hundreds) and get cooking yourself. Of course this would be the cheaper and probably tastier way to do things.
Check out your local health food shops and supermarkets for loads of veggie options. Yum!
You can buy veggie gravy and veggie roasts, so your Sunday Lunches will still be yummy.
You can also make all sorts of meals with beans and pulses and they are really good for you. (Bonus!)
Like eating out? No Problem! Nearly every restaurant these days has several veggie options that will have the meat eaters at your table green with envy.
Nutrition, Nutrition , Nutrition
No you won't be malnourished silly...
When you tell people you are becoming a veggie, you will have lots of concerned meat eaters worrying about your health, Now I am here to tell you that if you eat a balanced veggie diet you will be healthier than any of that lot.Meat is seriously lacking in nutrients you know. No fibre, hardly any vitamins and packed full of antibiotics and adrenalin. (You are what you eat remember).
All you need to do is eat a varied veggie diet and make sure you eat plenty of dark leafy greens, beans, pulses and other iron rich food. This is important for everyone, not just veggies. By the way veggies get plenty of protein. Most meat eaters actually get too much, which is no good for them (contrary to popular belief).
Those people you hear of who say "I stopped being vegetarian because it was damaging my health" were living on a junk food diet of crisps and chocolate, or worse still, not eating at all. Nearly all 'real' vegetarians are very healthy.
Plus your health will actually improve. Your cholesterol should go down, you will not be eating as much saturated fat and you will lose excess fat - Excellent!
Vegetarian Cook Books
Your friends and family will be begging to eat your vegetarian food.
Telling Mum and Dad
Not always the easiest thing to do is it?

To be a healthy vegetarian it is easier if you have the cooperation of your family, so of course you need to tell them at some point. It may seem like a big deal, especially if you family are big meat eaters, but just be honest and clear and stand your ground. This is important to you and your family should support that once they realize you are serious.
You may want to sit down with the family member you feel is the most receptive and explain your decision. You could then make a shopping list together to ensure them you will be getting all the nutrients you need.
Be strong my friend. Your family love you and will accept your decision soon enough.
The Next Step
So you have done a wonderful thing - What's Next?
Becoming a vegetarian is a huge step towards making the world a better place for animals. You should give yourself a massive pat on the back for doing that. But there is even more you can do. You can join animal action clubs, where you can give out leaflets, form local groups and sign petitions to bring about change. You can even become a vegan and get all animal abuse out of your life.
Talk to your friends and explain to them what animals go through every day, so that they can eat that hamburger. But mainly, just keep doing what your doing. We need more caring and compassionate people like you in the world.

- Very thoughtful, personal, and important lens!
I've was a vegetarian for 17 years, and went "whole hog" to vegan this year.
Despite the fact that I am going to have to answer the same question *again* from the same people, ("How do you get protein?"), it's worth it :)
Wing high five!

- Very informative and caring.
I was a vegetarian for years and went further by becoming vegan. It didn't feel right eating eggs or drinking milk anyway. I so much enjoy soya milk, rice milk and oat milk anyway - and it is healthier for you. Bonus!
After seeing, first hand, the battery chickens, I went off eggs right away.
Not only do I feel healthy physically, I also feel better spiritually knowing I am doing my bit to ease suffering and cruelty.
A great lens and 5* from me.
Regards,
Gary
