The Importance and How to of Becoming Famous

What is the importance of becoming famous if any? That importance lies in the fact that many of the people who make a lot of money and are not doctors or lawyers or high paid executives are able to afford their lifestyles because many people know these people as a household word.

This lens started out to be primarily about how publicity releases can make you famous. But there are many different ways to promote yourself and become recognized as an expert in your field. I personally have many different interests and I have created various lenses on Squidoo to express my interests. However, the interests that I have and that I most want to be recognized for are in the area of self promotion and writing.

In 2004 I wrote an article titled Blowing Your Own Horn which stated the importance of finding something that you are good at doing such as public speaking, writing, or any other method of communication and using it to promote yourself. It also gave suggestions if these ideas were not skills or talents that you possessed. But there is much more to promoting yourself than just simply writing articles or public speaking. With the advance of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0, that is social networking and social bookmarking the potential to promote oneself has become unlimited in scope.

In order to become famous you should pick a topic that you desire to possibly become recognized for as an expert in that field. What are some of the ways that you can be recognized as an expert?

1. Write articles about the subject matter of the field that you want to be recognized for. Then submit these to the major article directories such as Ezine Articles and others.

2. Create a blog about the subject matter of the topic that you desire to be recognized as an expert in. Promote the blog via article article marketing and/ or throught ezines related to the subject matter you are promoting. For more information about blogging visit my lens Smartblogging and my blog Blog Smart Resources.

3. Create podcasts about the subject matter. A podcast is basically an audio statement of what you know. If you are a musician then your statement, or rather your podcast would be your songs, your music. Podcasts can be downloaded to MP3 players and listened to at the convenience of the person who downloaded them.

4. Create ezines related to the subject matter that you desire to be recognized as an expert in. An ezine is a newsletter that is emailed to the people that subscribe to it. If your interest is in coin collecting then create an ezine about coin collecting. In order to make it easier to manage you may want to create each issue far in advance and place them in an autoresponder system that people subscribe to when subscribing to your ezine.

5. Send out publicity releases about your website that relates to the subject matter you desire to be recognized for. In the publicity release make sure to mention your name as the expert in the subject matter as well as to mention the subject matter several times. A great piece of software for helping create and submit press releases is Jeff Alderson's Press Equalizer.

6. Find forums related to the subject matter you are promoting. Make sure that these forums allow signature files promoting the URL(s) of your website.

7. Of course don't forget about paid ezine advertising. For the marketing field there are some very inexpensive starter packages available at Discount Ezine Advertising.

8. Join groups and participate in them such as my new group Unabashed Self Promotion.

Take these steps to promote yourself and when people do an online search for the subject matter or your name they will find material presented by you and you will start to become recognized as an expert in your field of expertise.
