Bed warmers help you sleep on cold nights

During the fall and winter when the temperatures drop your bedroom and bed can become rather cool even cold. You don't want to crank up the heat and start sweating and you certainly don't want to layer on the blankets so what can you do? Get a bed warmer.

The concept of a bed warmer has been around for quite a long time. According to Wikipedia "A bed warmer was a common household item in cold countries, especially Northern Europe. It consisted of a metal container, usually fitted with a handle and shaped somewhat like a modern frying pan, with a solid or finely perforated lid. The pan would be filled with hot coals and placed under the covers of a bed, to warm it up and/or dry it out before use.
After the invention of rubber, the classical bed warmer was largely supplanted by the hot water bottle, which is still widely used. In the early 20th century, electric blankets and then the electric bed warmer were invented to fulfill the same need."

How much sleep is necessary?

As long as I can remember 8 hours of sleep was enough. If you slept less you were depriving your body of rest, if you slept more than that you were lazy (actually my mother may have said that). But really there isn't a precise number that works for everyone. It has been suggested that between 7 and 8 hours of sleep is enough for adults. Although this isn't set in stone, many people find that they need far less than 8 hours of sleep. Babies and teenagers tend to need more sleep. Babies require a lot more, up to 16 hours. Although I don't remember my son sleeping that much when he was a baby! It is important to remember that sleep should be consistent. If you sleep 8 hours a night, make sure to sleep 8 hours every night. If you don't your inner clock or your circadian rhythm may be disturbed. And it isn't just the quantity of sleep that is important but also the quality of sleep. If you lie in bed tossing and turning for 8 hours there will be little rest.
