Online music promotion for bedroom superstars
I'm here to share with you a few ideas about how not to let your music fester and prevent you becoming one of the million doomed bedroom superstars.
So if you're thinking about giving up on your musical aspirations, heck! Any creative aspirations read on and maybe I can throw your ambitions a life line.
So let's not waste anymore time and let's get you out of the bedroom and onto the stage!
A little preparation...
Time to take your music to the virtual stage.
This is the easy bit...
Next you need to get an Overplay account. Overplay is a UK music site dedicated to the promotion and exposure of unsigned bands and will be your new out of the bedroom HQ. The site is super friendly and very easy to use and the best bit...drum roll please...it's FREE! I recon within one hour you should be up and running! So now you have FREE exposure and a FREE web page!Top Tip!
Overplay have an overall weekly chart and category chart. Why am I telling you this? Well, the more people who click to listen to one of your songs the higher your chart position.
And that's good because?
If you get enough clicks to get you into the Top 10 in the overall chart you get on the front page of the Overplay site which means your name will be in front of hundreds of people a day! Now if you're thinking "Wow! I'll just click my song a 1000 times and I'll be number one!" You can't, their clever system will only let you register one click per week form the same machine.
So make sure you get all your friends and family to go and check out your Overplay page and click on one of your song/songs!
Oh, did mention that Overplay is regularly checked by music industry reps?
Time to take your music to the real stage.
OK, deep breath, were gonna have to leave the room! Ahhhhh!

With a bit of luck you're now a proud owner of an Overplay page so now let's talk about getting physically out that bedroom of yours. Three words.

Now some of you maybe unfamiliar with what an open mic night are. Well, a open mic night is where a local venue usually a pub sets up a little stage and PA system and invite people to put their names down to be called up to perform for around 8 minutes (enough for two songs!) anything of their choice from singing songs to poetry to telling jokes
In my experience the people who run them and the audiences they draw are genuinlly welcoming and even more so if it's your first time, so it does wonders for your confidence and building a network of musician friends.
I know people myself included who have turned up played a few songs and made new friends and even landed some gigs just by going and all for the price of a glass of lemonade.
So search online to see if you have any open mic nights near you and if you haven't then you could grab the bull by it's horns and start one yourself by going into a few of your local pubs and having a chat with the landlord. I'm sure they won't turn down the idea to get a few more extra punters through the door!
How about some advice from the experts?
Is it just me who gets nervous before a performance?
