It's never easy for two minds to meet in total agreement...

This becomes evident when a couple has agree on how to decorate their bedroom.

They can do fine as a rule, with decorating any other room's in the home, but when it comes to the bedroom, a line is drawn...

Lets face it women and men have different needs to fulfill in the bedroom. While  women look at the bedroom as a room to take refuge, a place to relax, with all "their things around them." Women are creatures of comfort.

Where as men, they look for peace, sleep, and sex in a bedroom. They don't appreciate the frilly comforts as most women do. They could careless about loads of pillows, and such. To them loads of pillows spell work -- taking them all off the bed every night, and  just one more thing to stumble over in the night on the way to the bathroom...

So- I have put together this lens -- in hopes of helping couples to be able to stop warring over bedroom decorating dilemmas.  I hope to show that he and she can come to a mutual agreement, by simply blending their decorating idea's. With the end product ultimately result in a fabulous bedroom, that both will be very content to call their own...

Help! My Decor Need Updating...
This lens has loads of decorating tips...

There are many styles of older homes. All unique in their own special way, all attributed to architectural designs of the past. Should we always strip away older homes uniqueness? Design elements that once made the home not only an attractive place to live, but a home that was well sought after by the general home owner? Taking into account "what goes around comes around". Would it be perhaps wiser to try and integrate the old with the new? Making your home a place that continues to maintain a uniqueness of its own. Older homes have special challenges and many times, you'll hear that you can't do this or that. I beg to differ, with a little imagination, and a bit of work, you can revamp an old home, along with all its old out dated structural components. Please read on...

My Best Advice - Before You Paint...

The number one thing to do to start off your bedroom decorating project? Choose your bedcover, and linens, whether it be a comforter, a duvet cover, bedspread. et... choose and buy your bed cover first. So many choose the color of paint for the bedroom walls, and apply it. This is a common mistake.

What can happen is - you paint the walls, and fall in love with a bed cover that just won't go with your paint color. Choosing the bedcover first can also help you find the perfect motif for the room.

You will most likely be drawn to a particular style of cover that will guide you right into the perfect decor for you, and your mate. The bed as a rule is the focal point in a bedroom. It will not only dictate the color scheme, but it will also set the decor direction.

So choose your bedcover first, you will find all the rest of the decorating of the bedroom will come easy, and be more fun...

He's So Contemporary...

He's Contemporary... We have a problem, he wants contemporary fabrics, with some color. I love to sleep on crisp white sheets!

Note photo, you can easily mix contemporary fabrics with white. White is actually a very contemporary color. White is like starting with a blank canvas. You can add just about any color to it, and it will always stand out, looking clean and give a crispness to the decor.

I Would Like To Keep It A Bit Feminine...

He hate frills!

When its a his and her bed, you should consider him as well as yourself. You walk a fine line when you try to combine feminine and masculine. The trick is, keep it simple. Note the photo. The bed is a white metal bed, with feminine lines, but not overly feminine.

The linens are striped, and a soft blue. Choose linens that are a bit more subdued, not only in color, but pattern. This will somewhat even the score, so to say... Play down the feminine features of the bed by using furniture that is more masculine, or simple. Also keep accessories simple, no frills.

I am Going To Use Grams Bed !!!

I have My Grandmothers Wonderful Antique Bed...

Antiques are wonderful, and certainly can be used in a his, her room...
Note the photo, The decorator used a wonderful antique bed. By using the right fabric and color, this bed has become a his hers bed.

When using fabrics that are rich in color and neutral in pattern it creates a very rich, yet neutral look. Makes the bed none gender so to say.

Its also a good idea when creating a his, her room, that will include antiques, mix it up when it comes to accessories. Some masculine, some feminine.
You will be surprised how well all will mesh...

Perhaps on the female night stand a well loved porcelain figurine or jewel box, on his side perhaps a couple old leather books? You get the idea...

He Wants To Use My Brass Bed In The Garden!

He Does Not Want To "Lay Across My Big Brass Bed"

I assume he thinks it perhaps to girlie.
Brass beds are wonderful... Most Woman love brass beds. They are romantic, and can really be frilled up to the max.

Most men think them feminine. They don't have to be. Note the photo, tone the bedding down with medium to deep toned fabric, make sure the linens are tailored, and the bed spread hangs to the floor, no bed skirt... In regard to furniture that will accompany the brass bed, keep it simple. If the bed is as in this photo, you can even use contemporary furniture with it. Keep the furniture simple lines. Do the same with the accessories? All these changes will add up to a his/her room...

He will most certainly want to lay across that big brass bed...

The Worst Scenario -- A Canopy bed....

Make him feel like a king, not like a wimp...

Have you ever slept under a canopy? I personally think it is one of the most luxurious feelings one can experience.

But -- most men do not like it! Due to the frill factor.

So remove the frills, use either very light gauze fabric or a very heavy fabric that has masculine overtones. Keep the bed linens simple, and the rest of the rooms furniture on the simple side. By using a traditional furniture it will tone down the frill factor.

Keep accessories to a minimum, and very gender neutral. Note the photo, the decorator has pulled the look off perfectly...

We Both Love White - But...

I would like to add a little something special?

White is so restful...

White is wonderful... So crisp and clean, not to mention restful. Its a great choice for a his/her bedroom.

To add a little "something special" think vintage.
Vintage linens, such as some wonderful crisp white pillow cases or shames. They are easy to find and make such a statement.

Choose perhaps white on white embroidery cases or cases that hold old monograms. You can find vintage linens at antique shops, flee markets, second hand stores, ebay, et... Many are in pristine condition, due to not being used, and just kept in a linen closet for who knows what reason?

A bed done in all white, with vintage linens is an all time favorite of mine.

I want Color -- He loves White!

Again easy solution. Some people just prefer to sleep on white sheets. That's one reason white sheets remain the number one selling sheet color year after year.

This problem can be solved very easily, he gets to have his white sheets, you get to have a wonderful color of choice bed cover... You actually can't go wrong when choosing your color. Do keep in mind, keep the cover a his/her fabric, by this I mean no lace so on... No pink either...Bold stripes, bold prints would be a good choice.

I am So Good He's So Bad... I want A Sexy Bed

You will have no problem creating an I am so good bed... Have a look at this photo. by using mosquito netting you instantly scream jungle.

For a his/hers keep it all light and airy. Sleek flowing lines, that are just waiting for a breeze. Puddle the netting at the floor, it gives a great look... I like the use of all white linens with a touch of color, as in this photo. Other great color chooses might be taken from the jungle, such as green, magentas, hot deep pinks, deep gold's, deep oranges, deep reds... Use your imagination. Furniture to accompany this type of bed: you can keep with the jungle theme or antique worn black furniture looks great, as does contemporary. You can really go wild with accessories, jungle, African, beach, tropical, contemporary or keep it very simple...

This room can be made very relaxing or very stimulating... That up to you?

Hey ! He Could Care Less

This is such a great scenario... You can literally do what you please. But you may not want to go over board. This photo shows a bed that it looks like lots of thought went into? Nice soothing neutral colors were used. She used a great architectural old piece of paneled wall for a head board. The room has some great elements.

She used loads of comfy pillows, none have frills. I think all and all the right male would find comfort in such a comfy bed?

When In Doubt -- Use White, And Mix Up The Texture...

You might be thinking "white is white is white?" No big deal... But add texture, and white is so spectacular!

When in doubt choose white. The uses of white linens really make a big statement. Mix it up with texture. Add a spread of white chenille, with loads of pillows covered in white vintage pillow cases, the look is fabulous. Texture is the key when you want to get that extra pop out of white decor.

You don't want all one blend of fabric, mix it up. Make use of many fabrics when putting your bed together.

I guaranty you will be so pleased!

"I Just Love My Featherbed..."

Ever Considered Adding A Featherbed To Top Your Mattress...

They really add comfort to any mattress.

A feather bed can turn an ordinarily bed into a luxurious bed. If you are interested in adding a feather bed to place atop your mattress, there are a few things that you should consider. Number one - make sure that you do not have an allergy to natural feathers? People who are allergic to feathers can naturally not tolerate a feather mattress.

There are a number of bedding companies that manufacture feather beds, they also come in a wide range of prices. So its smart to narrow down the actual companies you can afford to buy from. Once you have narrowed down the companies that sell feather beds you in your price range, you can begin choosing the perfect mattress for you.

Feather beds come in many shape, sizes, and thicknesses. If you have a bed that is a nontraditional size (i.e. not Full, Twin, Double, Queen, King), you may have to have your feather bed altered or custom made. As a rule this is not necessary. If you have a traditional bed, however, you simply have to match the size of your bed to your feather bed selection.

The major difference in feather beds is thickness. If you are looking for a little extra padding to top your mattress, you should check out the thinner feather bed. However, you want to sink into a very soft feather-topped bed, choose a feather bed that is thick. I suggest 6-to 8 inches thick. Keep in mind there are many thickness to choose from.

Last but not least -- before you purchase a feather bed, consider the amount of warmth that you are looking to add to your bed. Sleeping on top of a feather bed can add warmth to your bed. If you are a person that prefers a cooler atmosphere while under the covers, make sure you cover your feather bed with a sheet. In chilly wintertime, feather beds can add extra warmth to your bed, if you sleep directly on the feather mattress.

I highly recommend feather beds... I would not be without one. They add such luxurious comfort to a bed. I always purchase a thick, heavy feather bed. The photo at the right is my current feather bed, along with description below. I have had this mattress for over a year, and love it. You can check it out at Below, at Overstock.

This feather bed is filled with small-grade white goose feathers and down, it's covered in quality, 233-thread count, 100-percent cotton; the featherbed is hypoallergenic.
