Have you been blessed by a Squid Angel? Or are you wishing for an angel blessing?

Are you wondering what the blessing actually DOES?

This is the right place to be! I'll try to unveil the mystery of the Angels program.

My time as an angel is over. It was fun, but now it's time for a break. If you'd like an angel blessing, keep reading to find the link to all the current angels.

Angel Blessing Facts

angel

  • Each angel can bless your lens. Multiple blessings carry more weight. What will happen? Your lensrank will rise at the next lensrank update. Megan Casey says, "If one Angel blesses a lens, the lens gets a small boost. If several Angels bless it, the boost jumps to a new tier."

  • Unlike star ratings, you can ask for a blessing at the Angels Forum. And angels are known to visit the Critique Me Forum as well, so put your lens out there for some feedback and see what happens. You can also comment in this guestbook with a request.

  • The blessing is subjective based on the Angel's opinion of worthiness. Basically the angel is looking for a quality lens -- unique, useful, and updated.

  • Each angel is assigned to look after a few categories on Squidoo. Of course, an angel can bless a lens or group in any category. But her special responsibility is to those assigned areas.

  • You are under no obligation to thank the angel who blesses your lens. Don't feel that you have to reciprocate in any way. Of course a simple "thank you" is always nice and can never offend an angel, but it's not required at all.

Has An Angel Visited Your Lens?

An Angel Blessing is Not Eternal

The blessing only affects your lensrank within Squidoo and will slowly wear off, so don't rely solely on it to carry your lens.

From Megan Casey again, "LensRank doesn't affect your Google traffic or other search engine results."

Moral of the story? Keep promoting your lens outside of Squidoo.

My Squidoo Tips Lens

Even before I was an angel, I created a Squidoo Tips lens. I guess if you stay with Squidoo long enough you learn your own ways of coping. Here are mine.

Flickr Angels

A hint for those seeking blessings -- graphics, images, and photos are very eye-catching content! In my opinion, it's almost impossible to have too many photos in a lens.

The Flickr module is the easiest way to add pictures to your lens.

Hint: Don't let Flickr Pick. Spend the time to hand pick a few choice images, perfect for your content.

Go to the Advanced Image Search and click the box towards the bottom that says "Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content." That way you'll not have angry photographers leaving you nasty comments about abusing their images.

Better yet, create your own Flickr account and use your own photos! Most of the photos I use on my lenses, especially related to homeschool, are my own. An added bonus is possible traffic from Flickr. In the photo's description at Flickr, be sure to link to the lens where you use the photo. Tag your images well and give them a generous Creative Commons license so they will be found in searches.

Other ways to add photos are the Polaroid Module and using HTML.

Who are the Angels?

angel banner

In the past, the angels were lensmasters who volunteered and were selected by HQ to serve for a few months reading and evaluating lenses. But for this angel term, the angels were invited to serve.

They are sort of the class monitors of Squidoo, making sure that spammy lenses don't stay around long and that good ones are recognized and rewarded. That's a tall order to fill, and that's why they are called Angels -- it takes almost super-human strength.

To see the current angels, visit the Squid Angels Headquarters group.

The wonderful images of angels I've used on this lens came from two sources -- Karen's Whimsey public domain images and Dover samplers.
