Beer Can Appreciation Day Crafts

January 24th is Beer Can Appreciation Day

January 24th of every year is Beer Can Appreciation Day. I did some reading up on the origin of beer and found out that scientist think that beer has been around since about 4500BC. Goes to show you, good things last a long time and, it's a good thing we don't have to understand the origin of beer to enjoy a tall cool one.

The most important thing, to me that is, that I learned about beer is that the domestication of grains may have been to make beer, not bread. And that the earliest beer makers actually made bread, because it was easier to tote bread than it was to carry the finished product, beer. They would crumble the bread up and add water. I wonder how long they had to wait before the watered bread turned into something that made them feel euphoric.

I'm glad that distillers have improved the process of beer making. Coors probably couldn't sell a lot of watered down bread, calling it beer. Can you imagine how great that would go over at a Super Bowl party?

Beer Can Crafts

empty cans, that is

beer-can-ashtrayActually this article isn't about the beer; it's about the empty beer can. Don't you think recycling the can would make us feel better about all those empty beer cans? Well, alright, you could just take them to the recycle center but, keep a few back and try some of the great beer can craft ideas that I've found to share with you.

This beer can ashtray is a lot easier to make than it looks. Go to Trick Life to see a video that shows you how to make this ashtray.
