Introduction

Before planning a camping trip you need to ask what king of camper you are. Do you like to relax in nature or are you Mr Adventure going on hiking trips? Thinking about what you want to do is the first step in planning your perfect camping trip. We suggest making a checklist that you can refine over time that will help you get the most out of your trip. We will look at a few camping categories that you need to consider when planning and making your list

The basics

Everyone is aware of the general basic things you need to take camping but there will probably be a few that will surprise camping newbies. The obvious choices will be a tent, sleeping bags, food, water and some cooking device. But here is a list of some more basics that every camper should consider.

- Floor sheeting
- Air mattress or sleeping mat
- Storage containers
- Tables
- Chairs
- Pillows
- Torch
- Binoculars
- First aid kit
- Sunscreen
- Tools such as hammer, knife and shovel
- Toiletries
- Insect repellent
- Backpacks
- Towels

Dining

Like most aspects of camping, everyone has a different idea of how to dine while on holiday. Some people prefer to be at one with nature and make food from scratch and others just want to replicate what they do at home. The basic camping cooker you will need is a camping stove with an adjustable flame as they give you more control than you traditional bbq style burner. Coolers are essential for keep food fresh especially if you are heading somewhere hot. Here is a list of some things we think are needed for your trip

- Cutlery including preparation tools
- Can and bottle opener
- Fuel for your stove
- Dishwashing things
- Pots and pans
- Kettle
- Chopping board
- Thermos
- Containers
- Rubbish bags
- Tinfoil

Other Camping Essentials

We have covered basics and cooking things you will need to take, but we think there are a few other essentials you will need to consider. If you are planning on making it a walking holiday, that means you will need to take a whole other set of things.
