What Is Art To You?
That's The First Step
Art is a personal thing and is not the same for each person. For some people the act of creating is more important than the end product. For others the exact opposite is true. Art can be a way of expressing yourself to the masses or it can be a way of achieving sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Understanding what art is to you is the first step to becoming an artist.
REMEMBER - art is very subjective and not everyone will like your work. As long as you like it and enjoyed doing it, then that's all that matters.
Enjoy Painting!!

Permission To Express Yourself
This is a truly inspirational book. It's my guide to art and life and a must read for any aspiring artist.
Starting Your Painting
How to get started
Step 1 - Develop an idea.
Step 2 - Create a series of sketches/doodles.
Step 3 - Provide different colour schemes to the
sketches.
Step 4 - Transfer the one you like best to canvas
either by using a light pencil outline or
by just beginning to paint.
Note: For the beginner artist I recommend providing
a light pencil outline of your sketch as a
guideline for proper proportions.
Step 5 - Begin to paint using your colour scheme as
your guideline.
Note: I recommend purchasing a colour wheel to
assist you in blending colours.
How to know when you are done
Only you really know when you are done.
I know when I am done when I step back and get the feeling of butterflies in my stomach.
It is then that I know I can put my brush down and call it done

Portable Art Studio.
It can be difficult for a begginner artist to know what to get and where to get it. In addition, as a beginner you may not know what your preferred medium will be until you have experimented with various types. It can become costly experimenting with different mediums. I recommend a package deal that includes a variety of mediums. The Portable Art Studio contains all the essentials needed for beginners and experts alike.

Take a look at some of my art on the items below. Clicking on them will bring you to my Cafepress shop. If however you want to show off your own art, click on the Cafepress icon below. It will bring you to the Cafepress homepage, there click "Make your Own Stuff" and your on your way. You don't need a shop either although thats another possibility for showing off your art. It's great fun. Enjoy!!

- Good job Kristen! I am trying to learn how to paint and draw. It's fun and as a photographer I will never run out of images to paint. I just wish it felt as natural as it does to photograph, but I'm working on it!
Thanks! Sara--- http://www.sarabeveridge.com/
