    hangar 9 alpha 40, had my first alone flight today (3rd flight ever, so that aint bad)

    My first planes were the airhogs with the lipo batteries. They were great to learn on-cheap,easily repairable and you could fly them off the snow or water or land. The next one we bought was the cessna you have pictured.My friend and I have been flying for three years and even though we've moved on to 3D planes we still fly the cessnas.They're probably the best to learn on. $120.00 gets you flying in 20 minutes.Just remember to turn ACT off. In my opinion it doesn't help and can even screw you up. The best way to learn is to have a friend who is more experienced help you.We have the same controllers that you can connect and use the "training mode" on. This way if my friend is crashing I can take control and save him.(which has happened more than once)

    my first plane was a air hogs havoc cyclone. it flies really well with small adjustments

    you can by a new plane a super cub is the best plane to start with

My Beginner Rc Plane

This is the GWS Pico Tiger Moth. This was the first plane I ever flew. I taught myself to fly with this plane. I really like it and it worked well for me as a beginner rc plane, but I do have some issues with recommending it as a beginner rc plane to someone else.

You may not be ready just yet to jump in and take your first flight with an actual rc plane. Using a flight simulator can be a great alternative to flying the real thing. By starting with a flight simulator you will be well prepared for your first flight with your first beginner rc plane.

    The Super Cub is probably the best choice in my opinion. Which really means little as I've only been flying for 3 months. I flew electrics about 15 years ago. (or least tried) As a beginner and weight being such a factor I had little success. Unless you're completely bored and need something to do in the winter, I don't know why you would waste time building a plane. I did use a computer simulator since my flight attempts 15 years ago, so I felt I was able to fly succesfully. Start with a 3-channel trainer... period... then move to a four channel. I have only been flying for short time, but have 4 planes and one heli. I still fly the super cub as it is easy and fun. However, once you get started with that try eflite apprentice. what a difference.

    My 15 year old son has been driving me crazy wanting a new rc plane, and information is hard to find on where to begin. If you go to a dealer they want to sell you a $500.00 plane, which will just end up crashing until it is broken. Thank you for your information, I think it will save a lot of people money and heartaches.

    Hey guys,
    Being a first time pilot, I think I understand how frustrating the process of finding a model could be. The information here is great with various planes to choose from. I do think it can be a bit much for the first timer, seeing all this information at once; there are a lot of planes to choose from. Consider this though, each person is different in terms of comfort level and may or may not be able to handle some of the models you have suggested. for example, as suggested by selfishGene, the Firebird Phantom may be a bit too powerful for the newbie. with that said, I wish I had this info when I first started off. If you can include with the articles, some model control issues that would be great too. Check it out at my Electric rc planes blog.

    WebsterPhreaky: thank you for giving your honest opinion. You are correct that this lens has become too commercial. You are also correct about some of the planes. There are some planes that would be great for a beginner, but where left out for a specific reason. They had to be built first. All the planes on this lens come pre-assembled. As I stated earlier in another comment this lens will be going through a major overhaul ad I hope to have it done within the next few weeks. I have just been too busy lately and unfortunately people like you looking for information on what sort of planes would be good for beginners have not received all the information they should have.

    I hope you and anyone else visiting this lens will come back and look for the changes that are going to take place. I hope you will find them much more informational and useful, and much less commercial. Thank you again for your comments.
