Beginners Chakra Meditation: What is a Chakra?

Chakras are focal points of energy within the body that each and every person has. There are seven main chakras that run from the bottom to the top of our spine that control our experiences, sensations and feelings. Whether we realize it or not, our chakras impact and affect our reality and they either help us completely experience life (when they are aligned and balanced) or they prevent us from enjoying life (when they are blocked or out of balance).

Besides being energy centers, the chakras mature as a result of spiritual practice and this is where the beginners chakra meditation comes into play.

Chakra meditation balances your mind, emotions, body and soul by focusing on the seven chakras, or energy focal points, throughout the human body. This form of meditation is concentrative, recharging, and cleansing. When you learn to focus on the different energies within your body and your seven chakra regions, you can stimulate various types of healing.

Starting from the bottom, the first chakra is known as the Root. The Root Chakra when balanced manifests the need of the physical body, purity and resurrection. An unbalanced one manifests passion and lust.

The second chakra is known as the Sacral or Abdomen. The Sacral Chakra when balanced manifests the power of invocation, rhythm and accuracy. An unbalanced one manifests anger, menace, hatred and apathy.

The third chakra is known as the Solar Plexus. The Solar Plexus when balanced manifests peace and service to God. A negative one manifests greed, obesity and fear.

The fourth chakra is known as the Heart. The Heart Chakra when balanced manifests love, gentleness, adoration and healing. An unbalanced one manifests lethargy, laziness and passivity.

The fifth chakra is known as the Throat. The Throat Chakra when balanced manifests emotional balance, peace, calm, joy, determination and will for action. An unbalanced one manifests jealousy and misuse of personal power.

The sixth chakra is known as the Third Eye. The Third Eye Chakra when balanced manifests mental abilities, concentration, and inner wisdom. An unbalanced one manifests arrogance, pride and suspicion.

The seventh chakra is known as the Crown. The Crown Chakra when balanced at this level manifests unity, spiritual consciousness, infinity and freedom.
