I remember growing up and seeing TV shows about a foreign exercise known as Yoga. There was an old man that was a master and he was contorting his body in ways that were unimaginable to me. I always viewed it as some sort of circus act.

Today yoga has become more mainstream, you could say it is the "in thing" as far as exercise is concerned. Where as not long ago it was considered a "hippy thing".

The fact is, Yoga is a great way to feel better from day to day whether you have back pains or just want to improve your health all around. It is and has always been for the betterment of anyone. It is especially a great way for beginners to get started on a path to feeling healthier and happier from day to day just by doing a few beginner yoga exercises.

Start Off Slow With Yoga Exercises For Beginners

Many of us are trying to find convenient ways to get in enough exercise. There are many reasons for wanting to get moving. Whether you want to drop a few pounds or just feel better all the way around, beginner yoga exercises are the best bet. However, it is important to start with a beginner workout when you take on this project.

While many of us are pretty active anyway, it is still very important to start things at the, well, start. A beginner workout may seem a little behind your ability but it is crucial to begin slowly, no matter how active you already are. You may be surprised to find how challenging a beginner workout really is.

Exercise for beginners isn't necessarily a breeze. There are many things that factor into a successful beginner yoga workout program. First of all, you are more likely to drop out of a regimen that is too strict, too long and just too inconvenient for you to follow. A good beginner workout will start out slowly.

The exercise program for novices should also be time efficient. If you are spending too much time doing a lax beginner workout, you may find that you can't fit the program into your busy schedule. You also may discover that you are not seeing the results that you should in enough time.

The ideal is a balance. The beginner yoga workout needs to be short, challenging but not overly demanding. This is a delicate balance that is difficult to achieve. This is why I always recommend starting off with a simple stretching and walking routine. The whole approach is easy and you can fit your routine into any schedule.

Designing beginners workouts really has more to do with psychology than with personal training. I am not saying that beginners exercises don't require the special knowledge that only a personal trainer has. If a beginners exercise program goes to far, does not put enough emphasis on stretching or safety, or does not have enough instruction, it is worthless at best and dangerous at worst. Nonetheless, the main thing when working with beginners is figuring out what they want out of their exercise workout routine.

When I first saw a yoga sticky mat, I really didn't understand just exactly how this thin piece of rubbery material was supposed to provide any cushion at all. I mean I was used to doing martial arts on thick mats that I could take a fall on without hurting myself. What I didn't realize is that the mat doesn't need to provide you with safety from a fall. Once I tried doing yoga on a hard surface I understood exactly the purpose of the yoga exercise mat. I'm sure that even if I was exercising on carpet, I would probably want to get one of these still. Many exercises are done on your feet, but there are more that may require you to come into contact with the floor. Trust me, when you are putting your elbows, knees and hips on the floor, you are going to wish you had some cushion that one of these mats provides.

The mat you get doesn't have to be very large. They are made for one individual and only need to be big enough for you to fit on. You can find exercise floor mats just about anywhere that sells fitness equipment and it won't cost you much at all. As long as you have a way to protect your joints from a hard surface, or from getting scratched by your carpet, then your exercises will be more enjoyable.
