Beginning Blogging

There are 3 steps to setting up a simple blog:

1. Pick a blog host.
2. Set up your blog
3. Write your first post

Let's go thru each of these in a little detail and you will be well on your way to blogging for fun!

1. Pick a blog host. Many blogs are hosted by the person that actually writes the blog. This is probably a serious blogger, or maybe someone who likes to blog for money. If you are just a beginner, you may want to start out with something a little easier...like a free blog site that hosts your site for you. These blog hosts usually provide step by step instruction, free information, and way of dressing up your site and making it unique so that you can express yourself. My top two favorite blog hosts are WordPress.com and Blogger.com. There are others out there, so feel free to do a Google search. However these are the two I have experience with and they are both user friendly (especially for beginner bloggers) and provide enough instruction that you will be blogging the same day you set up your blog page! Easy, simple blogging in a nutshell.

2. Once you pick your blog host, it's time to set up your blog. This is actually the easy part. Both blogger.com and wordpress.com provide easy step by step instructions. Just sign up, provide some basic information, and then follow the instructions one step at a time. Don't get distracted with the fancy stuff just yet, all you are wanting to do at this time is get your basic blog set up. Think "beginning blogger" and don't get sidetracked by anything that seems too technical. All you are wanting at this point is the basics, you can always come back and dress up your blog later. Once you have your blog set up, you are ready to START BLOGGING! How was that for easy blog set up?!

3. Your next step (and the most exciting) is to START BLOGGING. This means writing your first post. Many people are intimidated by this. Don't be. Just start. The trick is to remember, it won't be perfect. You probably aren't a writer (if you are, then you probably already have a blog), but blogs weren't created just for writers. Blogs are just journals of online information. They don't have to make sense, they don't have to be about anything special. They just have to be written by individuals with their own opinions, thoughts, hobbies, information, expertise, situations, complaints, whatever! This is the best part - you can write about whatever you want - don't even think of it as writing - think of your blog as your own special place to ponder, vent, dream, live life on your own terms. Beginning blogging should be fun!

So, there you go - you are now a beginning blogger, and at this pace, you may not be for long. One day you'll look back at your first post and think...wow, I've come a long way baby! And that is just how it should be.
