Learning to read is an exciting time in life. Reading is also one of the most important skills your child will every learn. For some children it comes very easy, for other children, it can be a bit more of a struggle. Here are some resources for parents to help their children get off to a good start in reading.

Tips For Learning to Read

- Don't just concentrate on phonics or sight words, make sure you use a combination of the two.
- Some children, especially little boys, can have trouble with phonics. Don't give up on it. It just may take them longer to learn it.
- Don't get frustrated with your child if he/ she doesn't catch on right away. Reading can be harder for some children.
- Make time to help your child everyday with their reading. It will be worth the time invested!!!
- If your child is getting up in 2nd grade and still isn't getting the very basics or is not progressing, you may want to talk to someone (a teacher, tutor, doctor, ect.) about it.

Dick and Jane Books

I love Dick and Jane books and use them with my young son. With them his reading has greatly improved. Each chapter, they introduce new words and repeat those words over and over. Then they continue to use those words in future chapters so the child gets very familiar with those words.

Remember...

Read to your child everyday!!!

This will help them in their ability to read as they get older and they will be more likely to be interested in books as they grow up.

Reading opens up new worlds for your child!
