Beginning Steps for Christian Mom Writers
This lens will give you some practical steps to success in Christian Freelance Writing.
Beginning Steps to Freelance Writing
1. Create your Workspace. To get started in freelancing, you need an inspiring place to write. If it's your home office, fill it with plants, pictures, etc. that will help get your head out of the box. If you have young children, you need a quiet, private place that you are able to go to while your children are napping. If naptime is a thing of the past then you need to faciliate at least 2 hours of quiet time per day for any kids that are at home. Children can nap, read, play quietly in their rooms or whatever, but they are not allowed to bug you unless it is an absolute emergency! (discuss what constitutes an emergency) You might meet some strong resistance at first if you haven't had anything like this in the past. But consistency is the key! Have rewards and consequences in place and this WILL work!
2. You need your own computer, internet access, cell phone and a NEW professional e-mail account. Always keeps your business separate from your personal account. You need an e-mail address that is professional and used only for writing. Mary.E.Smith@go.com is good. Mary.cutiepie@go.com is NOT! Do not clutter your inbox with freebies and spam. Do not use this e-mail address to sign up for anything unless it is specific to writing. While you can still use your cell phone as you always have, record a message on your phone that is professional and use this number as your business contact.
3.Take an online writing course from a local college OR check out some of these great FREE online courses offered by well known Universities!
.
4.Purchase a copy of the Christian Writer's Market Guide by Sally Stuart. This can also be found on Amazon.com.
