How our character makes it easier for children to understand behavior
Teaching good behavior can be a difficult task, especially as the children get older. A child that is introduced to these traits at a younger age are better able to comprehend the depth of the traits later on. Unfortunately at such a young age it is hard for a child to understand what bad behavior and good behavior actually are. Our character, Behavior Bear, allows children to easily identify with the character trait. We have found that children better understand character traits when they correspond with a character. We have also found that children are more eager to act appropriately knowing that our characters are 'real'. As our all of our characters are now in costume and available for school visits children are constantly asking if their favorite character can visit or teachers are able to reinforce, in this case good behavior, because if the students do not behave appropriately Behavior Bear will be making a visit, and he won't be happy to learn that the students have not been respectful.
Think of our characters like Santa Claus, except they are around all year long. Around Christmas time teachers or parents can use the excuse 'Santa is watching and if you aren't a good boy/girl he's not going to give you what you want this year'. Our characters can be used with the same basis, except gifts aren't involved and the children are actually learning to internalize good behavior as they are being reinforced with the idea of Behavior Bear showing up.
Our program uses worksheets, coloring pages, certificates, activities & more to enforce what it means to have good behavior and appropriate ways to act in public. We won't be able to continue donating our programs to schools and facilities and making visits with our characters without your donations so please consider giving to our cause. No one at Characters of Character currently receives any form of a salary, the money we receive goes directly back into adding to our program and being able to make public visits with our characters. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have

- I like this concept and building character is so vital in helping kids grow in the right direction. I think the home is the best place to teach character mainly because everything starts at home and all else is an extension. "Do unto others as you'd like them to do unto you"...is a great place to start. **Blessed by a Squid-Angel**

- I choose home, because when born, children do not know right from wrong, it is what you teach them in the early years, that will make or break them in later years. Thanks for interesting lens.

- Having characters teach character is a wonderful idea for working with children, they seemed mesmerized and totally focused when enjoying a beloved character.
