Beijing Olympics - The Best Olympics So Far
Come on guys, you know very well that the Beijing 2008 Olympics is the best so far and I doubt if the next hosts will ever beat it.
2008 Beijing Olympics - The BEST OIympics
I DOUBT if the next hosts will ever match the spectacular 2008 Beijing Olympics.
With over 46 Billion US$ investment for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China managed to give the world the best Olympics ever. London, the next host for the summer Olympic games in 2012 admits that it can't top the lavish Beijing 2008 Olympics. It would probably take years before an Olympic host beats the record-breaking performance of China. With budget alone, the Beijing 2008 Olympics tops the chart. The following is a list of the summer Olympic host cities and their respective estimated budgets.
1. 1896, Athens of Greece (1,500,000 dracmas)
2. 1900, Paris of France (.9 Billion US$)
3. 1904, St. Louis of the United States (1 Billion US$)
4. 1908, London of Britain (1 Billion US$)
5. 1912, Stockholm of Sweden (2 Billion US$)
6. 1916, Berlin of Germany (not held due to World War One)
7. 1920, Antwerp of Belgium (1.73 Billion US$)
8. 1924, Paris of France (2.1 Billion US$)
9. 1928, Amsterdam of the Netherlands (1.92 Billion US$)
10. 1932, Los Angeles of the United States (2.7 Billion US$)
11. 1936, Berlin of Germany (2 Billion US$)
12. 1940, Helsinki of Finland (not held due to World War Two)
13. 1944, London of Britain (not held due to World War Two)
14. 1948, London of Britain (1.4 Billion US$)
15. 1952, Helsinki of Finland (2.2 Billion US$)
16. 1956, Melbourne of Australia (1.41 Billion US$)
17. 1960, Rome of Italy (1.72 Billion US$)
18. 1964, Tokyo of Japan (3.4 Billion US$)
19. 1968, Mexico City of Mexico (1.9 Billion US$)
20. 1972, Munich of Germany (2 Billion US$)
21. 1976, Montreal of Canada (2.4 Billion US$)
22. 1980, Moscow of the former Soviet Union (3.5 Billion US$)
23. 1984, Los Angeles of the United States (2.7 Billion US$)
24. 1988, Seoul of South Korea (3.11 Billion US$)
25. 1992, Barcelona of Spain (9.5 Billion US$)
26. 1996, Atlanta of the United States (4.2 Billion US$)
27. 2000, Sydney of Australia (2 Billion US$)
28. 2004, Athens of Greece Enditem (12 Billion US$)
29. 2008, Beijing, China (Over 46 Billion US$)
30. 2012, London, UK (Estamated to be 15.4 Billion US$)
That's not all, Beijing 2008 Olympics is also record-breaking in terms of the number of infrastructures and facilities built specifically for the Olympics. It also received the largest number of contingents from the participating countries.
Unfortunately, while the Olympics is not a "POLITICAL" event, a lot of organizations (sectarian and non-sectarian) tried to politicized it. Numerous calls for boycotts have been launched but have caused little damages to the Olympics.
Well, the success of an Olympic host could hardly be measured by finance and record-breaking achievements really but considering the changes it brought to China (economically, politically and socially), there's no doubt that the Beijing 2008 Olympics is the best so far... and I doubt if a host in the near future could top the achievements of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
