I Believe In Santa Claus

Santa's Bell Still Rings For Me

Yes, I'll admit it...I believe in Santa Claus. I still hear the magic bell from his sleigh when it rings just as the boy in the story of "The Polar Express". I believe that Santa Claus is a spirit that can live in all of us. The spirit of Santa Claus is giving, at least it is to me.

A group that I belonged to challenged everyone to write a Holiday article and I chose to write about my favorite jolly old elf who personifies the meaning of Christmas to me.

Follow me as I explain my belief in Santa and how he does actually fit into the real "Reason for the Season."

Santa Claus Has Been With Us

for a very long time.

Oh sure, his name hasn't always been Santa Claus or Santa for short. He has been known by many names. St. Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas, and Sinter Klass are all names referring to Santa or at least a belief in him.

It is believed that the original inspiration for Santa was Saint Nicholas of Myra from the early christian days who is famous for his gifts to the poor.

Father Christmas goes back as far as the 17th century with the British honoring the Christmas gift-giver.

The American version of Santa Claus began with Clement Clarke Moore's poem "The Night Before Christmas" and then illustrated by Thomas Nast for Harper's Weekly.

No matter what you call Santa Claus or how you think he looks, Santa Claus personifies the spirit of giving at Christmas time.

I believe Santa Claus

has a link to many faiths

I am a woman of deep faith and treasure the story of the first Christmas and do believe that the birth of Christ is the real reason for the season. The gift of the Christ Child from God was and is the greatest gift ever given to those of us who believe.

All major faith systems have the message that it is important to give of ourselves, to give love, to give respect, and to give to those less fortunate than us. Giving is a very important aspect of any faith.

Santa Claus personifies that act of giving and the magical feeling when you have given selflessly to another. He allows the child in all of us to remember the wonder and delight that the Christmas season brings to us all. He reminds us that we receive blessings or gifts when we follow our faith and live a good life. His message of being a giving spirit transcends to all faith systems.

The Polar Express

a story about believing in Santa Claus

I love the book Polar Express! I started the tradition several years ago to read the book to my daughters each Christmas Eve. They were teens at the time but they still loved it. Now that there is a movie, we watch the movie every year. My daughters are adults now but they still look forward to this tradition.

My daughter and Santa Claus

When my youngest daughter was struggling with whether she still believed in Santa Claus, she went to her older sister to ask about it. My oldest daughter told her that the rumors she had heard at school were true. There really is no such thing as Santa Claus.

My youngest daughter thought for a moment and then said, "I don't think anybody ever told Mom because she REALLY believes there is a Santa Claus. This will break her heart!"

My Vision of Santa Claus

When I picture Santa Claus in my mind, I see a vision of this happy grandfatherly figure with kind and loving eyes.

A Santa Collection

At Christmas, I pull out my Santa Claus collection. Santa visits in all sorts of shapes and sizes. He is made from wood, ceramics, cloth, paper, and tin. At last count I think I have about 300 Santa items. So, yes, I believe in Santa Claus. He actually lives in my heart all year long.

Love it! Glad you believe, and that no-one ever told you Santa Claus doesn't exist (great comment from your daughter!). Think how much better the world would be if we could all just believe in the spirit of giving. I love that aspect of Christmas!
