Bellafont Use
Bellafonts can be used for both personal and commercial use; however, there are certain limitations to how the fonts cannot be used because it would make the creator cringe to see it used as such. Please see specific fonts for details.
New to Fonts and Licenses?
If you are looking at fonts for use, you need to watch the licensing agreement.
Generally, if you are looking for something to use as PERSONAL USE, if it's free, that means it is usually free for those purposes.
However, if you are looking for something to use as COMMERCIAL USE, i.e. on t-shirts you re-sell, your logo, advertising, etc., then you will need to read through the licenses to find ones that stipulate it is free for that use.
THE LICENSE AGREEMENT should (not all do if you are lucky to find the agreement) stipulate how you can use the font (creative uses) and how you can distribute the font (providing the font on a different website or a CD compilation, etc.). MANY AGREEMENTS are attached to the font in a zip file. It's usually titled something like "Read Me." And it is usually a text document of some sort; however, some fontographers have an html document in there. If there is no license attached to the font, using it would be taking a chance, especially for commercial purposes. Sometimes, the readme gets lost in between websites, so another free font site may have it with the font. Some sites offer links to the fontographer's website where they may have a basic agreement for all of their fonts. At the very least, they may have a way to contact them.
When you purchase a program from the store that contains fonts, usually those fonts are only free for personal use. Some are, however, free for commercial use, but the best way to know for sure would be to research the font. It's similar to clip art which works in a similar fashion.
If you are looking for commercial free clipart, consider looking for "dingbat" fonts.

Awesome Free Font Fontographers
Commercial Free or almost
Since information can change, and some of the following links pertain only to a portion of the fonts available, please read their license agreements. Most of these links offer fonts free for commercial use.
- Larabie Fonts
- Ray Larabie is one of the most awesome fontographers on the web. He has many fonts available for free, and free for commercial use. He also has a site for fonts one can purchase, and you can become a fan on facebook.
- Blue Vinyl Fonts
- Some fonts are free for commercial use, however, it is requested that you purchase a font out of gratitude for using a free font for commercial purposes. Not a bad deal when you see how awesome the fonts are.
- Aenigma Fonts
- The license agreement attached to one of his fonts state that all his fonts are free for commercial use; however, keep in mind he is allowed to trump that anytime with a new license, so read his information.
- Nicks Fonts
- His fonts can be found at dafont among other places. His license agreement is not attached as a read me to his fonts. It is on his website. It is probably one of the most laid back agreements out there.
- Vic Fieger Fonts
- His old ones are free. His new ones, he links to. He has some of the best fonts the web has to offer, especially for military type fonts. You can donate to him on dafont.
FREE FONT WEBSITES
- Dafont
- Most recommended for free fonts.
- 1001 Free Fonts
- Free fonts
- Urban Fonts
- Free fonts
- Abstract Fonts
- Free Fonts
- Simply the Best Fonts
- Free Fonts
- My Fonts
- Not all fonts are free, but they are the best website to purchase fonts. Larabie Fonts place all their free fonts on this site, and it will give you the most up to date versions of their fonts (which is one of the best free fonts out there). Also this site contains a "what the font" feature to help you identify fonts you see. They seem to be in connection with dafont.com as well.
FONT CREATOR
Bellafonts Recommends
This program is not too expensive. Perfect for people who do most of the art work by hand and scan it in. A little bit overwhelming for novice fontographers, but still manages to be pretty idiot proof.

Affordable Software on Amazon.com
Affordable Software
Ability is an office suite and includes a generic type photoshop (Ability Photopaint Studio), which is an image creator that allows you to work with images in layers. It does not offer all the benefits of photoshop, but it will satisfy the needs of most simple creations. In addition, it offers generic word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software that allows you to save as and open microsoft office products (i.e. word, excel, and powerpoint). Students, however, will find a better deal getting a student discount for Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop.
Printmaster is a page lay-out software that allows you to work with images, text, text art, and so forth and save it as a Printmaster Document. Out of all the publishing software I've used, I find this one to be the perfect medium between being user friendly for novice users and being capable of doing a lot with it. It's better than, but as user friendly as, Print Shop and Publisher, but it's more user friendly (not quite as good) as Pagemaker.
