Bella Swan at a Glance
Isabella Marie "Bella" Swan (later Bella Cullen) is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Twilight series, written by Stephenie Meyer. The Twilight series, which consists of the novels Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, is primarily narrated from Bella's point of view.
In Twilight, Bella moves to her father's home in Forks, Washington, meets the mysterious Cullen family, and falls in love with Edward Cullen. However, she soon discovers that the family is a coven of vampires. Bella expresses a desire to become a vampire herself, against Edward's wishes. In the second novel, New Moon, Edward leaves Forks in an effort to keep Bella safe from the vampire world. Jacob Black, a werewolf from the Quileute tribe, comforts her during that time, and Bella comes to love him, although not as much as she loves Edward. In Eclipse, Bella becomes engaged to Edward, and they marry in Breaking Dawn. Edward then transforms Bella into a vampire after she gives birth to their daughter, Renesmee.

It's official. Bella's made her choice. Although at least 80% of people preferred Edward, there are still the die hard Jacob fans who wanted her to pick Jacob against all odds.

Literary Works Referenced in the Twilight Series
From the Pride and Prejudice-like coming together through a series of misunderstandings and misinterpretations of feelings keeping the pair apart in Twilight, to the Romeo and Juliet star-crossed lovers story and close-to-tragic moment in New Moon, to the love triangle in Eclipse and its parallels to Wuthering Heights, the Twilight saga is an homage to these great love stories and works of literature.
Pride and Prejudice
Twilight is supposed to be very loosely based on Pride and Prejudice. There are hints of this in Edward's behavior towards Bella. Bella mentions that this is one of her favorite books and reads Jane Austen in the novel.
Romeo and Juliet (Arden Shakespeare: Second Series)
New Moon is loosely based on Romeo and Juliet. There is also a scene in the novel where Bella and Edward watch the Franco Zefferelli version of Romeo and Juliet, while studying the play. Some of the action of the novel takes place in Italy, during the Romeo and Juliet moment that could end badly.
Wuthering Heights (Norton Critical Editions)
Eclipse is loosely based on Wuthering Heights, and WH is referenced frequently throughout the novel. Bella reads her much-read copy of Wuthering Heights during the novel, and Edward finds he identifies with Heathcliff more than he realized.
Anne of Green Gables, 100th Anniversary Edition
Bella references Anne of Green Gables in Eclipse, thinking of the period style dress of Edward's time in the Anne of Green Gables series.

- Bella Swan is not a good role model, unless you wish to be the most selfish narrator the world has ever seen. She is so BORING and has no life before Edward came along. And the whole repeating 'I love you, I love you more' over and over again is getting on my nerves.
Also, the message Stephenie Meyer sends in New Moon is when your guy leaves you you'll fall apart and start ignoring all your friends. Can someone PLEASE tell me how Jessica is the bad guy for being angry that Bella ignored her outright for 6 months? Granted, Jessica isn't a nice person, but she has the right to be angry.
People will be ready to kill me over my last point, but Edward is controlling and overprotective and I would pick Jacob any day of the week. It even swoops so low as having Bella Ask Edward for his PERMISSION to go somewhere.
You'll all be surprised at this, but I do actually like Twilight when I'm mellow enough to read the series again, and I do fanfics too. So I'm not a total hater, I'm just critical.

- Bella Swan. One of the most famous female characters of this generation. I bet every girl would love to be in her place especially being torn between 2 men who have captured the hearts of women.

- I think Kristen Stewart does a convinving job as Bella Swan. I've read a lot on the internet on how Bella is a passive female that needs to be saved, but I think she's very brave to stay devoted to Edward even if he's such a controversial and taboo figure. She knows what she wants and she goes after it regardless of what others may think or say, and I think that's powerful. Nice lens.
