Meet Belle the Dog

I met Belle at the local humane society about 16 years ago. It was definitely love at first sight. She was beautiful, but very timid, and she cowered quietly in the back of her cage. I noticed that she was awfully thin and she ducked when I first raised my hand to pet her.

She eventually warmed up to me during our visit and I knew she had to come home with me. I went home to talk to my family first and my husband rushed out and adopted her when he heard how much I loved her already.

She was a full-grown Golden Mix, but weighed only 35 pounds. She had ear infections and itchy skin and the first vet we took her to, said she should have been euthanized by the dog pound. We took that opportunity to get a new vet who was willing to treat her ears and her allergies and became a loving, healthy, happy, spoiled member of our family.

Beautiful Belle

This is one of my favorite photos of Belle. Isn't she beautiful? This is the look she gives me when she needs a cookie. It always works.

The Lovers

Elmo the Cat is madly in love with Belle the Dog. He cuddles with her all the time and he is constantly rubbing himself all over her.

How Do We Say Goodnight?

Belle

Belle has been an important part of our family for as long as we have been a family. Our children do not know a world without Belle. I barely remember life before Belle.

She is now over 17 years old and the years are starting to show. She sleeps most of the day and doesn't move much when she is awake. She has good days and bad, but lately there are more bad days than good ones. We know that the most loving thing we can do for this wonderful girl that has been the best dog, ever, is to help her across the rainbow bridge.

The problem is, we don't know how to say goodbye. We don't know how to live without Belle. If only we could know for sure that there is an afterlife for dogs and that we may be reunited again. The optimist in me thinks that one day I will see my beloved family members once again, but the pessimist is not so sure.

Belle's Fan Mail

Belle loves attention and she would love to hear you tell her how pretty she is. Unfortunately, she can't read, but I'd be happy to pass any messages along to her.

Please let Belle know she is beautiful and how lucky she is to have found you. If she is no longer physically with you, just know that her soul is and that you gave her a wonderful life.

Belle is a beautiful dog - did you say she is part Golden Retriever? I had one years ago, named Baron. Our cat loved him too and they used to sleep together. Hope you'll add more stories about Belle, maybe elaborating on some of the darling pictures you have at the top, like you did with the one of Belle and Elmo. 5*

What a sweetie. I've walked out on more than one vet. I'm glad you found a good one for Belle.
