Kids love Ben Tennyson
He's a kid, just like them
All kids love to pretend to do great things. Ben does these things. He battles fierce aliens, he can turn into stronger, more powerful alien creatures.Sometimes, he makes mistakes - just like in real life.
Sometimes, things don't turn out quite as he expected - just like in real life.
He gets into fights with his cousin. And makes up with her.
Unlike most children's adventure cartoons, there is a small element of realism in this program. The "bad guys" aren't the cartoonish silly, bumbling idiots seen in so many children's programs. They have an actual element of "menace" to them.
Kids know this. They know the difference. For the older child who is just starting to explore independency, Ben can be a role model. Not least in part because he isn't perfect and he does mess up some times. But, he also owns up to his actions and apologises when necessary.
These are the role models children need, not the ones who never make any mistakes but the ones who do make mistakes and can admit it.
Ben 10 Alien Force, Volumes 1 - 5
Picking up five years after the original series, We see Ben and Gwen and their friend Kevin during their early teens. Ben has let go of his omnitrix, so to speak, and is trying to live a normal life. Unbeknownst to Ben, a race of aliens called The Highbreed have secretly landed on Earth with the intentions of destroying the earth. Grampa Max sets out to stop them and comes up missing. Ben once again dons the Omnitrix in order to bring them down. The stakes are alot higher this time. The Omnitrix recalibrates itself to Ben's body, resulting in a new form, functions, and aliens to transform into. These first five episodes basically lay the groundwork for what I've just told you. Ben does battle with new and old enemies, and even makes friends with children who have powers identical to Ben's.
