Dr. Ben Carson is a Lifesaving Hero
About Dr. Carson
Who is Ben Carson?
Born in inner-Detroit and raised in a broken family, Benjamin Carson was considered one of the dumbest kids in school. But, with the help and encouragement of his mother, Sonya, who only had a third grade education, Ben studied hard and graduated from high school with honors and gained admission into Yale University.Always having a fascination with the human mind and brain, he earned a degree in psychology. But, upon graduation he decided that he would instead like to pursue something more, and so he went on to medical school at the University of Michigan.
At this time, Ben Carson discovered his unique ability to visualize the human brain in three dimensions and his excellent hand-eye coordination. Having a background in psychology and neuroscience, he chose a career in neurosurgery.
When he finished medical school, Ben Carson became a neurosurgery resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and at only age 33 he became the youngest director of pediatric neurosurgery ever.
He then went on to make medical history in medical procedures such as the separation of the Binder siamese twins in 1987 who were joined in the back of the head. This surgery was risky, as all previous attempts at this type of procedure had failed with the loss of one or both twins. After 22 hours of intense surgery and 70 staff members, the Binder twins were successfully separated.
Dr. Carson performed many other medical "miracles", and since has earned many awards and honors, including being appointed to the President's Council on Bioethics by George W. Bush in 2004 and most recently, being given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bush on June 19, 2008.

- The movie about Dr. Ben Carson, Gifted Hands, was inspirational in so many ways. This movie dispelled the "excuses" of those who choose to waste their lives by committing crime(s) or expecting success to fall into their laps without working hard. And to use the ridiculous excuse that "I'm not successful because I'm a product of my enviornment." Give that cop-out a rest! Dr. Carson is without question a role model (and his brother). I admire their Mother beyond words. She refused to allow her third grade education, prejudice, segregation, too much TV, and any other obstacle/excuses to deter/discourage her sons from becoming the best they could be. She instilled in her sons to focus on the positive and to know they had the ability and intellect to become successful if they applied themselves. All three are what role models really represent. I will be in attendance to hear Dr. Carson (and Take 6) speak at The Crystal Cathedral. May God continue to bless your remarkable family.

- I watched the Gifted Hands movie, and it made me really think about what God can do with one's life...you've encouraged me to listen to where He's trying to lead me. I thought it was amazing how you have let God take the credit for your work too, I think I would really stumble in that area and want to give myself the glory.

- I, too admire Dr.Carson and his wonderful testimony to God's love and grace and to his very wise mother and wife. I have no desire to meet any movie star or even the president, but I'd give my 'eye teeth' to meet Dr. Carson and his family. I have hunted in every way I know how to find a DVD of the movie that was on TNT, ( I'd like to share it with everyone I know) but so far have been unable to find it sold anywhere. If anyone knows where to buy one please write a blurb.
