Any food in excess can be bad for you - but tofu and soy products can't possibly be as bad for me as the high fat dairy and other products they replace in my diet.

Can't the phytoestrogens be bad for you?

Thank you for all the information about tofu -- to be honest I never knew too much about it. I have been tempted to buy and try but I postponed because didn't know how to eat it. You got me interested in tofu -- I'll try to search for more tofu recipes. Keep well!

Great lens. I really like tofu that's been cooked well. And put a lump of it in warm ginger drink and you get something we call tofu fa. Yummy.

This is interesting, because I really struggle to eat tofu, but would love to because of the health benefits. I've really enjoyed reading this so thanks for sharing.

Ooh! Had to share. Cut up "firm" tofu into tiny little bite-size pieces, added to my homemade hot and sour soup, AND got the nod from the boys that it wasn't as bad as they had heard. PS The boys are meat/taters guys, so this is a very good thing. Next venture is replacing ricotta with whipped tofu in baked ziti...shhh!

Tofu is something that we all need to give a chance to eat.
  • aesta1 Oct 17, 2011 @ 3:14 am | delete
I often mix it with vegetables. I can't eat it without those.

Like Tipi says, you make tofu look really good, will have to try some of your suggestions as I don't eat much meat and could use the protein and other health benefits.
  • Tipi May 4, 2011 @ 12:35 pm | delete
I wasn't aware of the different kinds of tofu and perhaps haven't had it prepared properly. You have made tofu sound inviting.
  • RomeSal Apr 8, 2011 @ 8:00 pm | delete
I love to use soft tofu with my soups; it is really healthy eating - the hard ones I use with a stir fry as with noodles or as an accompaniment with other vegetables like carrots and french beans. It is almost like paneer I guess.
Thanks for your information Rajays - you really took the trouble to present well. I shall learn from lens like yours'.

I love tofu, it looks like paneer. It tastes equally good, I have tried tofu in curry and my daughter loved it.
  • prosperity66 Mar 16, 2011 @ 7:18 pm | delete
I love tofu although I'm absolutely not vegetarian. I used to fry tofu in vegetable oil, it was delicious! Really and I definitely recommend anyone to give it a try.

I love tofu! It's so healthy and delicious.
  • Momsbusy247 Feb 24, 2011 @ 1:57 pm | delete
It certainly does have to be cooked right or it is just tasteless mush.

I just discovered pasta that is made from soy, looks like a tofu product. I like to stay away from wheat so its helpful. Although I also hear that too much soy is a problem also. Its very confusing.

Thank you for taking the trouble to explain about this wonderful food. I was at a loss about it and how to use it in recipes. Featured this on Holiday Cooking.

I love tofu and it has no cholesterol , highly nutritious full of protein
  • CCGAL Dec 5, 2010 @ 10:08 am | delete
I have loved tofu since the first time I tasted it. Some people say it has no flavor, but it does have a flavor that I like very much. I would use it more than I do if my family liked it even half as much as I do.
  • mulberry Nov 22, 2010 @ 7:42 pm | delete
There's pretty much no way I would eat Tofu by itself. However, I love it in some dishes. like the vegetarian Korma (can't think of the name of it right now). This is great info.

I love tofu, in fact I had it for lunch today - my husband cooks it with light oyster sauce and he adds in shiitake mushrooms -- delicious! WIll give your recipes a try sometime. I enjoyed reading this very informative lens on the humble but versatile tofu. ~Blessed~

Tofu is totally new to our family menu. Both of my children are vegetarians and I have a nephew who is a vegan. I am trying to learn how to cook for them. I have only purchased prepared tofu in the past, but looking at your instructions it doesn't look too hard and I think my nephew could even eat your recipe. We will have to try this for Thanksgiving! Thank you for sharing it.
  • MartinPrestovic Oct 3, 2010 @ 5:33 pm | delete
I'd like to try silken tofu. I read somewhere you can make a really good cheesecake using silken tofu as an ingredient. It's a vegan recipe, one that I haven't tried yet. Really curious to know what it tastes like.

It's amazing how useful tofu can be. The flavour changes depending on what you add to it. Good and informative lens. Blessed.

I really would like to have this more often, I just never experimented enough with it, but agree, you have to have a good recipe, your kebab recipe looks good for a start. I would never try to make it though, great lens, thanks! - Kathy

Being a member of the faction that eat to live,
Encounters of the exotic kind, have been elusive.
Learnt about tofu the first time from this lens
    And triumphantly went to tell my wife thence;
Only to be told summarily that I was rather dense
Not to have nurtured a healthy cuisine sense.

    Very informative lens.

I love tofu, my family hates it. They don't know how many ways I can disguise it, ha-ha-ha.

Being Korean it has been a big part of many of my favorite Korean dishes. I prefer my tofu in soups or stews though. Great tofu lens.
