The benefits of physical fitness are many. I know it has been said many times that being in shape and getting fit is important for being healthy, but it can also give you more energy and make you feel better. Your body functions more efficiently if it is given rigorous and consistent exercise.

Physical fitness entails working out your cardiovascular system and your muscles. Exercises that include weight training and cardio work is important for getting in shape. Estimates are as high as 60% of the world's population are overweight. The way to change that is through proper nutrition and a exercise.

Getting fit is not necessarily easy. You should strive to find exercises that you can enjoy and stick with. Some exercise classes can be fun. Some activities like biking, running or weight lifting can be enjoyable. Classes that may interest you include yoga and pilates. It really depends on your interest and goals.

Strength Training

Physical fitness helps to build muscle. In order to increase muscle mass, the muscles must be overloaded with stress by progressive resistance (weight lifting) so as to stimulate the expansion of muscle size in order to reduce the resistance. Basic exercises such as bench presses, pull ups, squats and military presses can all accomplish this goal.

When most people think of building their muscles they think in terms of bodybuilding. For most people they aren't interested in building that kind of physique. Building muscle can be as simple as creating tone and definition in your muscles. Increased muscle mass will lead to fat burning as well, as muscle will metabolize stored fat in order to maintain size.

Muscle Endurance

Building muscle endurance is a bit different than strength training. This is probably one of the more difficult areas of physical fitness because it involves increasing one's oxygen capacity as well as reducing one's muscle fatigue threshold. The exercises required for such increases are difficult and include sprint, plyo-metric exercises and weight lifting. While these physical fitness programs are difficult, they also yield significant results. It is advised, however, to build up to them slowly.

Have you ever felt your arms or legs get tired? This occurs when the muscles have reached the limits of their muscular endurance capacity. For athletes who take part in sports such as rowing, for example, muscle fatigue can set in rather quickly. There is no way to eliminate the build up of lactic acid which causes your muscle capacity to break down during exercise. You can however train the muscle to endure the stress longer by performing a series of high rep body weight exercises. A rower would probably wish to perform a high number of chest, shoulder and arm exercises to buildup their muscle endurance.

Good Physical Fitness Takes Motivation

Fitness is a necessary part of life. I hate to get on the soap box but good physical fitness is something that you should make a part of your life.

Fitness is not something that you have to struggle with. It needs to become a habit that you do everyday. A good habit. It shouldn't be something to dread either. Find an activity that you enjoy and get yourself fit. That's what we want you to think of when you think of fitness.

Granted, the first weeks of learning to be fit and staying healthy will be the hardest. You'll dread it. It may suck. You'll find excuses about not doing it. You'll claim that getting fit is just too hard. You just can't give up what you love. That's not true.

In fact, if you have the will power to save your life by sacrificing for just a few weeks, you'll see that fitness can be easily mastered by you.

Take a look at yourself right now. What do you see? If you are unhappy about any part of your body, chances are good that area of your body is bothering you because it's an unhealthy area.

Although many people start looking into fitness because they want to lose weight, fitness is not just about weight loss. By understanding where you stand on these factors above, you can work to improve your overall wellness and increase your lifespan as well as the quality of life that you are currently living.

If you don't think that you need to lose weight, that's great! You are one step closer to being healthy. But, that's not to say that you don't have health problems beyond that level. Many people are still at risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol as well as other concerns even though they aren't technically overweight. Therefore, you need to take into consideration the fact that overall health is in fact important to improve.

Losing Weight

The main benefit of physical fitness for most people is that it will help you lose weight. Or for some people it helps to maintain their current weight. It is well-known that rigorous exercise coupled with eating 4-6 small meals a day will greatly improve your chances of losing weight.

The deal with weight loss is to simply burn more calories than you take in. It's a simple formula but definitely not one that is easy to do. When you take in calories that you do not burn, the excess calories will be stored as fat. If you are ingesting a diet high in saturated fat or refined sugars, then the volume of excess calories you consume will be so high that storing excess fat becomes almost unavoidable. In order to eliminate this stored fat, a physical fitness program designed to raise one's heart rate and burn stored fat for energy must be utilized. Such exercises include: running, cycling, swimming, pilates or any other type physical activity.
