Ranked #4,793 in Music, #126,712 overall

Ben Harper is one of my favorite musicians and songwriters.  His mix of rock, soul, folk, reggae and blues really makes it easy to load up the ipod and listen to him for hours.

Ben and his band tour quite a bit, he's written and performed on a couple of Blind Boys of Alabama CDs, and appears on the Standing in the Shadows of Motown documentary and soundtrack.

Ben Harper's new band: Relentless7

Ben Harper has a new band, Relentless7!

The members of Relentless7 are the group that first recorded on "Serve Your Soul" from Harper's 2006 release "Both Sides of the Gun". The musicians, originally from Austin, Texas, include Jason Mozersky on lead guitar, Jesse Ingalls on bass & keys and Jordan Richardson on drums.

The group, with Harper on slide guitar and vocals, completed their recording sessions in November, 2008.

Harper tells Rolling Stone, "It's absolute, unapologetic rock music. It's rock music from the places that you want rock to be from. There's some Queen in there, and some Floyd-isms, and there's a good dose of blues and soul."

New Ben Harper release with Tom Freund: Collapsible Plans

Ben Harper writes:

I have been moved by Tom's music since the first note we played together in my family's music store after closing time -- just he and I with two guitars until the morning hours.

He was the first person I had ever heard that was my age, writing songs of his own, and they were amazing.

Tom is an extraordinarily soulful multi-instrumentalist, Ben Harper & Tom Freund - Pleasure and Pain and also a one take phenom when it comes to recording, making my role as producer that much easier, enabling us to complete recording for "Collapsible Plans" in under ten days.

A few of the songs on this record have been previously released, but I felt the record would be best served with not just new material, but also some of Tom's strongest material from the past%u2026 These are songs that deserve the entire world as an audience, and I didn't want to let the potential of that chance get away with "Collapsible Plans."
