Benjamin Discovery .22 Caliber PCP Air Rifle

PCP stands for Pre-Charged Pneumatic. The Definition of Pneumatic at Dictionary.com indicates that this word simply means filled with or containing compressed air. A pneumatic air gun uses a piston filled with compressed air propel an air gun projectile such as a BB or pellet down range toward a target. Pneumatic air guns come in varying forms such as low power single pump air guns and higher powered variable pump powered air guns.

Variable pump models such as the Crosman Pumpmaster 760 Air Rifle, Crosman 2100 Classic Air Rifle, and even the Crosman American Classic Pump Pistol require that the shooter use a pump mechanism housed on the gun itself to refill the air piston to desired fill in order to make the next shot. This means that a shooter can not get a second shot off without first recharging the piston.

Enter, the PCP air gun. Actually, PCP air guns were one of the first air guns invented. However, until the release of the Benjamin Discovery series, PCP air rifles have been notoriously expensive to maintain as the required expensive filling stations such as a scuba tank (although long terms costs of even a more expensive PCP air guns will eventually be less costly than CO2 powered air guns). On to the point . . . PCP air guns solve the problems of having to recharge the air rifle between every shot and thus they are called Pre-Charged Pneumatic Air Guns. Before firing a single shot, a PCP air gun is filled to a required PSI and then the shooter is given the ability to shoot mulitple shots without having to recharge the gun.

For less than $400, a Benjamin Discovery Rifle can be purchased which includes the high pressure hand pump that allows us to easily fill the rifle on demand. What's more is that once you have the high pressured hand pump included with your Discovery Package, you can use that pump on other Crosman-Benjamin guns such as the Marauder Series Air Rifles and even the Silhouette PCP Air Pistol.

In short, the Benjamin Discovery has given me the entrance I wanted into the world of PCP Air Guns at the Price I needed.
