Bentley Turbo R T2 T-Series and Arnage Classic Cars

The Bentley Turbo R and it's Siblings: T2, T-Series & Continental
I have come to that time of life when I need to buy a "sensible car"; one with four doors, so after much procrastination and test driving I have chosen The Bentley Turbo R. It doesn't have the acceleration of my previous sports cars, but does an excellent effort when you consider its girth, aided by the monstrous turbo-charged 6.75 litre Rolls Royce V8 engine.
The Bentley Turbo R was one of the last of the old Bentleys, from the era before the company was taken over by VW. The Bentley Arnage that followed, the first of the VW ownership cars, is similar and arguably more attractive and still has the wonderful old Rolls Royce Engine, but now even that has been replaced with the new Bentley Mulsanne which is a direct rival of the Rolls Royce Phantom
Here is my review of this relatively inexpensive luxury classic car and some books on the subject.

The Bentley Turbo R
The Bentley Turbo R is a strange beast from a different time before I was born. Rolls Royce took over the bankrupt Bentley company and sold cheaper Bentley badged versions of their ultimate luxury car, the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. This car was called the T-Series and was identical apart from the front grill.

Bentley T-Series and T2
Despite the huge engine the T-Series and T2 really weren't sporting cars deserving of the Bentley badge. That all changed, however, once they started adding turbo chargers to the antiquated engine in the 1980s.
The T2 makes a wonderful classic car however, despite really being a Rolls Royce with a sporty badge, especially if you want style and quality rather than performance. An excellent wedding hire car perhaps. The TV presenter James May from BBCs Top Gear famously owned an immaculate 1980 Bentley T2 and gave it away as a prize in a competition in the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Driving the Turbo R
This car is huge and old, but beautifully finished with acres of the finest wood and leather. The engine has such huge character and outrageous torque. The enormous weight of the body is no problem for this engine. The driving position is quite high and handling is perhaps not up to modern competition, but that really isn't the point. 1965 to 1977 Bentley T-Series Performance and Other Figures:The early Bentley T-Series cars had the old Rolls Royce engine (and body) and were quite slow by modern standards despite the 6.2 or 6.75 litre engine, but still a lovely luxury classic car.

- I have always had a soft spot for older cars. I use to know an Author who wrote several books about her father's Model T cars. She was a very huge fan of them...needless to say. It has been so long ago that I do not even remember her name now, but she was a local in this area. Great Job, with this lens!!
