Week 7: Finding Inspiration
Finding inspiration for creating bento is something that all occasional bento makers and dedicated bento hobbyists alike can find tricky. Even if you aren't making 'character' lunches, it's easy to get stuck packing the same meal day in day out. Especially with fussy eaters to cater for and a limited budget for lunch items.

Teachers & Classes

Watch for updates and schedules coming soon!

The Teacher's Lounge

Do you want to help teach Bento Summer School?

If you are an experienced bento maker (or just have some awesome tips and recipes to share) and would like to help teach Bento Summer School, please let me know. We are preparing themed lesson plans for each of the 10 weeks in the course, so if you're up for the challenge (and the fun), join us in the teacher's lounge. We're just getting started and need your ideas!

Commit to as little or as much as you want. Lessons and tutorials can be created on Kawaii Bento Club pages or your own blog.

When you sign-up, you will join our backstage team where you will get access to the schedule and weekly topics so you can start planning right away.

I know it is kind of a crazy idea, but I really think this will be a fun way to bring the community together and also to create a fun learning environment for those who are finally deciding to give bento a try for the first time.

bento = box lunch

Bento is traditionally a mom-made meal that is carefully constructed with love and offers a connection to home and family while the child is away at school. To create these adorable lunches, onigiri (rice) and eggs are molded into the shapes of animals or cartoon characters and garnished with faces cut or punched out of seaweed, meats, cheese, etc. Carefully sliced fruits and vegetables are transformed into flowers, miniature animals, stars or basically, anything cute. The rice and other foods can also be dyed naturally to add even more variety to the palette. Obento is packed in a waste-free container, with a thermos and reusable chopsticks or utensils, so it is a "green" lunch!
