Berkley Prime Crime Mystery Authors

Initially starting with Cleo Coyle, I have grown very fond of this publishing company. I've already made a lens about Cleo Coyle and Jenn McKinlay. This page is for some of the other authors in this group of mysteries. There are still many authors, and I will update book reviews as I read their books.

Liver Let Die

Liz Lipperman

Jordan writes a personals column for her newspaper in Texas. She gets called into her managers office and thinks she's about to get fired. He ends up offering her an opportunity to write the food column for a couple of weeks. She jumps at the opportunity and is sent to review a restaurant. Afterward, she finds her waiter dead in her apartment complex. Is she the killer or will she unravel the true mystery behind the murder?

I was immersed into the world of Jordan. I felt for her being a clueless cook trying to write a column she knew nothing about. With the help of her friends, she was able to pull it off. It had the charm of their relationships with one another and the mystery which unfolded as you read the story.

This is Liz Libberman's first published book. There are future releases scheduled for the Clueless Cook Mysteries.

Dipped, Stripped, and Dead

Elyse Hyatt

This is the first book in the "Daring FInds Mystery" series. The main character is named Candyce Dare who is a single mother. She goes dumpster diving for used furniture which she turns around and resells for profit. Unexpectedly, she finds a body in the trash dumpster. It is all covered in lye. The detective, Caster Wolfe, asks for Dyce's help to investigate stores that use lye in their furniture. With the help of her best friend Ben, she's able to find the truth behind this big mystery.

There were a lot of furniture descriptions in this book. I liked the drama that took place between the unraveling of the crime. This was an overall interesting and educational book.

French Polished Murder

Elyse Hyatt

This is the second book in the "Daring Finds" series.
Dyce is going to French Polish a piano for her new boyfriend Caster. She finds an old letter that makes her wonder what ever became of the two lovers involved. She investigates and gets herself into trouble. Will the mystery from over a hundred years ago end her life?

I liked this book better than the first in the series. There was more character involvement and I enjoyed reading about the history behind the couple's disappearance. I didn't know who the killer was until it was announced at the end. It kept me guessing.
