Berkley Gulp Alive- Better than Livebait

I was fishing a well known Bass lake and catching many 4-5 pounders most of the day with my trusty Rapala X-Rap , an awesome crankbait that suspends when you stop retrieving it .

At one point that day I had a strike that was different from the rest of the strikes I had gotten from the bass.

I reeled it in - ever curious what it could be - and it was a giant slab Crappie - caught on a crank bait!

I thought to myself: "What am I going to do? I have 8 lb line, no tiny jigs and a medium heavy bass rod & I am sitting on a school of giant Crappie!"

Then it hit me - I had some beetle spins in my box , so I took the body off the beetle spin and put a 3" Berkley Gulp Alive minnow on!.

After I loosened up the drag on my reel (because Crappies are paper mouths and i was "until now " Bass fishing), the last 2 hours I fished it was one crappie after another! Virtually every cast was another nice crappie in the boat!

There were some people in another boat watching all these fish coming on board, and asked me later what in the world was I doing. I proceeded to explain my home made beetle spin with Gulp Alive body rig & how it was slaying the crappie. They were so shocked that they said they were going to have to try this on their own, since crappie are such good eating and they normally just throw bass back!

Oh yeah - almost forgot to tell you - I took the Berkley gulp bait off and thought I would try the original beetle spin body in the same location, and I did not catch a single fish! As soon as i put the Berkley Gulp Alive back on, the crappies were back on too.

Since then I have used Berkley Gulp Alive leeches on walleyes, and will never be using live leeches again.

You can also catch around a dozen fish per bait before you should change to a fresh one, which is way more than other live bait you have ever used - this stuff is truly amazing!

One more tip if your going after Walleyes use the Lindy Max Gap jigs and the VMC hot skirt glow jigs, tipped with either the minnow or leech experiment to see which is better that day!
