The Starbuck Chronicles - American civil War -
The Starbuck Chronicles are a series of four books following the exploits of a young Boston-born Confederate Officer Nathaniel Starbuck in the early battles of the American Civil War.
The books begin in Richmond, Virginia after the fall of Fort Sumter, Charleston, South Carolina when Starbuck is trying to visit his friend Adam Faulconer. Starbuck is saved from an attack by Richmond's patriotic residents (who think he is a Yankee spy) by Faulconer's rich landowner father, Washington Faulconer. Faulconer wishes to raise a regiment to fight the Yankees, Starbuck is appointed on of Faulconer's aide with the rank of second lieutenant. He is there by circumstance not for politics. Starbuck is then tasked with recruiting a tough Mexican-American War veteran, Thomas Truslow who lives in the fictional Faulconer County, to the regiment, he succeeds only by dedicating the grave of Truslow's wife and marrying his wayward daughter Sally Truslow.
Many other events occur between this and the start of the hostilities and the rather pompously named Faulconer Legion marches of to the First Battle of Bull Run. It is here that Starbuck alienates himself from Faulconer. This skeleton is elaborated upon in the article on the book Rebel.
The next book, "Copperhead", follows Starbuck during the period of the Union invasion of the Confederacy by the Army of the Potomac under General McClellan.
The Third book, "Battle Flag", is set in the aftermath of the defeat of McClellan.
The final book "The Bloody Ground", follows Starbuck as the Confederate army under Robert E. Lee invades the North, culminating in the Battle of Antietam Creek.

The adventures of Richard Sharpe, an English soldier
At the beginning of the series, Richard Sharpe (Sean Bean) is a sergeant in the British 95th Rifles serving in Portugal in 1809. When he singlehandedly saves the life of General Sir Arthur Wellesley (David Troughton in the first two films, then Hugh Fraser) from a group of French cavalrymen, Wellesley gives Sharpe a battlefield commission, promoting him to lieutenant. Sharpe is placed in charge of a detachment of the 95th Rifles - a group of elite riflemen ("chosen men"), among them Sergeant Patrick Harper (Daragh O'Malley), who eventually becomes his best friend.
Wellesley and his various spymasters, first Major Michael Hogan (Brian Cox), followed by Major Nairn (Michael Byrne), Major Mungo Monroe (Hugh Ross) and later Major General Ross (James Laurenson), find Sharpe to be an extremely capable and cunning officer and give him progressively more important tasks. Despite their backing, he has to fight against the strong prejudice of aristocrats (who often owe their army positions to money and social connections rather than military skill) against an uncouth commoner raised from the ranks. He makes a number of dangerous enemies, such as French Major Pierre Ducos (Féodor Atkine) and Colonel Sir Henry Simmerson (Michael Cochrane), and encounters one from his prior service in India, Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill (Pete Postlethwaite). However, Sharpe's successes gain him steady promotion. By the end of the Napoleonic Wars, at the Battle of Waterloo, he is Lieutenant-Colonel Sharpe.

Stonehenge - Audio Book Download
Four thousand years ago, a strangers death at the Old Temple of Ratharryn and his ominous gift of goldprecipitates the building of what for centuries to come will be known as one of mankinds most singular and remarkable achievements. Bernard Cornwells epic novel Stonehenge catapults us into a powerful and vibrant world of ritual and sacrifice at once timeless and wholly originala tale of patricide, betrayal, and murder; of bloody brotherly rivalry; and of the never-ending pursuit of power, wealth, and spiritual fulfillment.Three brothersdeadly rivalsare uneasily united in their quest to create a temple to their gods. There is Lengar, the eldest, a ruthless warrior intent on replacing his father as chief of the tribe of Ratharryn; Camaban, his bastard brother, a sorcerer whose religious fervor inspires the plan for Stonehenge; and Saban, the youngest, through whose expertise the temple will finally be completed. Divided by blood but unitedprecariouslyby a shared vision, the brothers begin erecting their mighty ring of granite, aligning towering stones to the movement of the heavenly bodies, and raising arches to appease and unite their gods. Caught between the zealousness of his ambitious brothers, Saban becomes the 1 leader of his people, a peacemaker who will live to see the temple built in the name of salvation and regeneration.
Bernard Cornwell, long admired for his rousing narrative and meticulous historical imaginings, has here delivered his masterpiece, the most compelling and powerful human drama of its kind since Ken Folletts Pillars of the Earth and Edward Rutherfurds Sarum. His re-creation of civilization as it might have been in 2000 BC at once amplifies the mystery of his subject and makes the world of Stonehenge come alive as never before.
