Best 10 Southern Gospel Songs of All Time
Ranked #2,693 in Music, #74,101 overall
It was hard to limit the list to 10
There have been so many great southern gospel songs that have been written in the last 70 plus years that it can be very hard to limit the top list to just ten. These are what I believe to be not only the most popular songs in the southern gospel music industry, but also the most powerful songs written as well.
I picked a few old songs along with a few new ones as well, so if you have been listening to southern gospel music for a long time you will recognize some of the older classic when they could only be heard on vinyl records and the radio.
Each song will have a Youtube video of a music group singing the song as well as some places where you can buy some of these great songs on CDs today.

I could not possibly list of all of the best songs in this list
There are so many other southern gospel songs that could have easily been added to the list, and trying to limit the number to 10 was difficult. There were tens of other songs buzzing through my head when I tried to make this list but I tried to narrow down the criterion to a combination of the most popular southern gospel songs and the most powerful ones as well. Hope you enjoy.
#1: The Lighthouse
sung by Ronnie Hinson
"The Lighthouse" is an old southern gospel song that is still popular today because so many people can associate with it. I don't think this song will ever "get old" because it has such a powerful message about what God has done for us.

#3: Champion of Love
The Cathedrals
One of the most popular southern gospel groups of all time is the Cathedrals. They had an awesome group with Glen Payne, George Younce, Scott Fowler, Roger Bennett, and Ernie Haase. Only Scott and Ernie are still with us on this earth today, but their songs still make a huge impact in lives around the world because of their testimonies through southern gospel music. "Champion of Love" was one of the Cathedral's most requested songs and Scott still sings it today with Legacy Five.

#4: Because He Lives
This is an old song by Bill Gaither, but it's probably the most well known southern gospel song every written. Bill Gaither has probably had more influence on southern gospel music than any other singer./song writer int he world and he still sees a lot of success with the group "Gaither Vocal Band". He still has homecomings all over the place and is the main attraction at the National Quartet Convention in Ohio every year. Listen to this old classic song about the living Saviour, "Because He Lives".

#6: Alpha and Omega
Gaither Vocal Band
I absolutely love this song. It is purely based in scripture from the book of the Revelation and the Gaither Vocal Band has such tight harmony that makes this song one of the most popular southern gospel songs in the last 10 years. It is a commonly requested song but you can listen to it here anytime you want. Enjoy.

#7: We Shall See Jesus
by Legacy Five
It's no surprise that we have another song from the Cathedrals. They seemed to hog all of the great southern gospel songs. This is a great song that goes through 4 key changes and builds as it goes until we finally get to the part of the song where we finally see Jesus face to face. Talk about a powerful song.

#8: Boundless Love
The Cathedrals (reunion)
Do you like songs that have like 10 key changes in them and just keep building and building? Boundless love is another great Cathedral song that is still popular in southern gospel music circles, and is often requested to be sung by Legacy Five. But here we have the originals singing Boundless Love in the video clip below. You are going to enjoy this one.
Who Doesn't Love Southern Gospel Music!
Once you hear the toe tapping music, heat felt lyrics, and contagious energy of southern gospel music, it's hard not to like it.
#9: There Rose a Lamb
Gold City
This is a great resurrection song and is very popular around Easter time, but why not listen to it all the time and be encouraged. Gold City and Ivan Parker made this song popular, so check out the video below to see why. And don't forget to see video #10 which is my personal favorite southern gospel song of all time.

#10: It is Finished
Gaither Vocal Band
The Gaither Vocal Band sings this powerful song called "It is Finished". It also makes a wonderful choir song. Bill Gaither is actually the author of this song and so who better to sing it than his group. Thank God it is Finished and the battle is over. Enjoy this video below. And don't forget to leave a comment or vote on your favorite southern gospel song on this page.
