Airline Miles Credit Cards - Compare the Best Offers

Ranked #40,702 in Travel & Places, #1,014,634 overall | Donates to March of Dimes

When it comes to airline miles credit cards there is no shortage of offers to choose from. All of the major (and several second tier) banks and financial institutions have them. Some have exclusive business relationships with specific airlines. American Express, for instance, has teamed with Delta Airlines to offer SkyMiles, while Chase has rewards credit cards for customers of American Airlines and Delta Airlines.

While there certainly is a market for people that prefer to use a particular airline, there are far more consumers that benefit from travel rewards credit cards that don't specify that you must fly with one carrier. These offers are more flexible, thus allowing the card holder more travel options. Many of these types of "general purpose" frequent flyer credit cards feature no restrictions or blackout dates.

Be careful to fully read the terms of any offer that interest you before completing the application. Some important considerations include:

* How many miles are earned per dollar spent
* How easy is it to use your points
* Are there any restrictions or blackout dates
* Do points have an expiration date
* What purchases qualify for rewards points

There are several other important factors to consider before you apply for a credit card. Most rewards credit cards have annual fees and carry higher than normal interest rates to offset the cost of the rewards they grant. If you pay your balance in full every month then great, you are way ahead of the game. But if you carry a monthly balance then any rewards earned can be wiped out by the high interest rates that you are paying.
