Videos of ArtRage Paintings and Tutorials

This lens collects all the best video tutorials for ArtRage (both 2.5 and 3), as well as some lovely music videos of pictures being painted. ArtRage is an extremely realistic painting program, that I have written numerous lenses about - see the first section to learn more.

Tutorials - from live sessions introducing ArtRage, to how to add stencils - are in the first part of the lens. The second is full of videos of paintings and sketches in ArtRage. Feel free to suggest more at the end if you know of others - and if you know the original artist on DeviantART or elsewhere.

None of these are mine, as I have yet to figure out how to record myself. For more about me and my artwork, visit this lens!

ArtRage 2.5 Live Session

A Brilliant Introduction to ArtRage Painting

This video is a live session from Marc of Ten Minute Drawing

He walks you through using the oil paints, colour mixing and brush cleaning, drawing trees, Landscape painting (without photo ref), and one painting WITH photo ref (the tiger paintng from corbis)

Recorded @ uStream.Tv

...the entire session is nearly three hours, but it is very interesting. Watch the first five minutes to get an idea of how realistically the paint in ArtRage acts. And keep going for more advanced drawing, such as landscape perspective, lighting, sky...

Or would you rather read the manual?

Video tutorials walk you through all the steps - but you have to sit through them! What do you think? Are they worth making? Do you watch them?

I have just downloaded ArtRage Pro version...went for the top dog! I have also just bought a Mac...my first...(yes, I know two steep learning curves, maybe that wasn't smart...but I like a challenge I guess!) I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in to both, and I was so happy to come across your lens, which will be a great help to me I'm sure...I love video tutorials! :0)
Thanks for making this informative lens!

CreativeRays says:

Yes I believe that as long as you apply what you have learned, then they have value. Example; Although I haven't yet used Artrage to do more than experiment with it's features,I have been able to learn through the videos what is possible. Given this advanced foreknowledge has allowed me to know before I even attempt a project what I am capable of doing with the program and therefore expands the my thinking and imagination to greater depths. .

sphynxylynxy says:

Hi, I have to say that visuals are better than just static on a page trying to
get a lot across. I prefer video always even though manuals can be theory
and be informative, I still say that video helps to demonstrate in an easier capacity one's ideas and creative suggestions. Tutorials are more easily assimilated through the choice of video with audio explanations.

Speed Paintings are also great to see one's creative thinking but are
definitely not considered tutorials, not enough time put in to explain
the thought process of the speed painting being demonstrated and way
too fast for the eye to see what, why or when things happen.

A well put tutorial video is one that has thought put into it, well explained,
not just a live demo of one's capabilities!

Mark Chong gave a wonderfully well explained video tutorial of good length
on artrage and painting, perspective, light and shadow etc to explain his
thinking, to back up his demonstration. Bravo for his wonderful efforts!!

skiesgreen says:

Yes, I can mor easily follow instructions when they are shown rather than explained.

...not something I use.

What's New: ArtRage Studio Pro Stickers

From Someonesane

"I'm one of the Beta testers for the ArtRage Team over at Ambient Design and they just began to allow us to release information on their upcoming release of ArtRage Studio Pro (ArtRage 3). I made this video to show some of the members at the AR forums what they can expect from the Sticker Spray Tool, which is one of the new tools they added to the ArtRage program. It allows Pro users to create everything from bump mapped sticker sheets and stamps to bitmap brush heads and with a little trickery, impasto-like brushes.

Music provided by the ArtRage team so I don't get sued. Thanks guys! "

ArtRage Digital Painting Tutorial #1 - Artrage Settings

From CartoonSNAP

http://CartoonSnap.blogspot.com - Tutorial video shows how I painted the latest SpongeBob cover for Nickelodeon Magazine. Digital Painting done in ArtRage 2.5 -- I share all my brush settings and digital painting techniques! Please see my other videos for the first steps in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. ** How to import a PSD file into ArtRage ** #1 When you import a layered Photoshop PSD file into ArtRage, it has to be in RGB mode, not in CMYK mode. You can change the mode in Photoshop before you bring it in to ArtRage. #2 When you import your drawing, ArtRage will put it on the lowest layer and give it an opaque paper background......To be able to see through your linework to the color paint below, DO THIS: On your imported Drawing layer, go to "Edit Paper Settings" and near the bottom of the options dial the "paper opacity" (NOT the layer opacity) to 0%

You Eated My Cookie?

ArtRage 2.5 Digital Painting - from Someonesane

I wanted to get in some digital painting practice, so I found an image online and painted. Just for fun, I recorded it. I used ArtRage 2.5 to make it and mostly used a single layer for the main part of the image.
