Best Blog Platform List
Find some good places to publish your content in our top blogging platform list. Click the arrow next to a name to vote it up (you need to be registered with Squidoo to do that).
1
WordPress
Wordpress has both hosted and self-install versions, both free to use. It's one of the best blogging platforms, and the most popular by far. WP is open source and has a big community of people creating new templates and plugins. The hosted version (Wordpress.com) doesn't allow you to put any ads on your blog, while the self-install one gives you full control over your blog.19 points
2
Blogger
Blogger is a great free blogging platform from Google that offers nice templates, widgets, mobile blogging, and money making opportunities by displaying AdSense ads on your blog. They also offer unlimited bandwidth and let you use your own domain for free.15 points
3
Tumblr
Tumblr is probably the best blog platform for microblogs. It's very simple and easy to use, but they do provide advanced features like detailed visitor statistics, and allow you to park your own domain. You will find that a lot of blogs are picture or video blogs with very little text content.5 points
4
Posterous
Posterous is a free content publishing platform that's designed to make mobile blogging as easy as possible. Users can post new entries on their websites by sending e-mails from their PC or cell phone, and even include attachments (both actual files and links, e.g. Youtube). It's integrated with a variety of social network services like Twitter, Flickr and Facebook.4 points
5
TypePad
TypePad is a paid blogging platform that does not offer a free version. They have professional designs, widget support, mobile blogging and detailed visitor stats. It doesn't offer as much control over your blog as you'd get using a blog script on your own server, but if you don't mind that, TypePad might be just what you need; it requires less maintenance than a self-hosted site, too.3 points
6
Weebly
Weebly is a free web site creator which allows users to make webpages and blogs with a few clicks, simply by choosing a theme and the widgets they'd like to use. They don't have any kind of bandwidth restrictions, offer over 70 professional designs and let you use your own domain. It's more than just a blog platform, but it's a great choice for bloggers as well.2 points
7
OnSugar
OnSugar is a stylish free blogging platform that allows you to easily share content with the world. It has a simple interface, an integrated ad system for making money with your blog, allows custom domains and gives you access to Getty Images.2 points
8
LiveJournal
LiveJournal is a popular social media site which allows its members to write journals (blogs) on a variety of different topics. It's very focused on the community aspect, with people voting on the best posts, discussing them and sharing their content.1 point
9
TextPattern
TextPattern is a content management system (CMS) that's easy, flexible, and suitable for blogs as well. It's free, open source software and a good alternative to Wordpress. You will need to install it on your own server since they do not offer free hosting services.1 point
10
MovableType
MovableType is a popular, open source, free blog platform that is a good Wordpress alternative if you're looking for stand alone software to use with your own hosting. They have an active community which creates free plugins and templates, even if they're not as big as Wordpress.org is.1 point
11
Serendipity
Serendipity is yet another PHP-powered, free and open source blog and content management system. It offers easy management with one-click plugin or theme installs, automatic updates and good stability and speed.1 point
How to Add New Entries to the List
The rankings of the top blogging platforms in our list are determined by visitor votes. Furthermore, you are very welcome to add your own favorite blog CMS if it's missing. Simply click the "Add to this list" button above and enter the homepage of that blogging service. Press "Done adding" and write a short review, outlining some of the key features of the site or script you want to submit. All submissions will be approved manually, so it might take a day or two for it to appear on this page.At this time submitting and voting is only available to Squidoo members, but you can simply leave us a comment about what you think is the best blogging platform, and someone will add it to the list for you. Don't miss the poll below, either.

- I actually use WordPress and Blogger. I also have an account with Tumblr and with LiveJournal, but have not started blogging in those places. For free blogs with the potential for making some revenue sharing and money from advertising, I would pick Blogger. As installed on a host server, WordPress is definitely the way to go. There are a million things you can do with an installed WordPress blog that you cannot do when you use their free service.

- Seems most people would prefer whatever they use, and very few people have real experience with all of them. I've used blogger, posterous and wordpress. They all have some learning curve, though I'm finding WP more challenging than the other two I'm familiar with at this point. In the end, it seems wordpress has the most features and is the most popular blog platform.

- I've always used Blogger for my personal blog and it works perfectly fine for me. I'm considering Wordpress for another blog I want to start, but it seems complicated to download for someone who's not familiar with web design terms. Going with Blogger for now, and maybe I'll take the time to learn Wordpress at some point.

- I've used both and wordpress is the best but for some reason I like Blogger better. I use my own domain so it's not a blogspot subdomain. If you're planning on having a major serious blog, wordpress is the best choice though.

- wordpress is the best blogging platform. It is better to get your own web hosting, so that you don't get your blog deleted without notice. Blogger is also a good starting place to begin blogging. But after a while you are going to want to put up ads and affiliate links. Do yourself a favor and get your own web hosting account and get more control. Hostgator is cheap and they have quick wordpress installs ( promo code getwebhosting )

- Wordpress is a no brainer with the simplicity of setting one up. It is practically instantaneous, plus the fact that WordPress blogs are already optimized for Google, Yahoo and Bing which is a great advantage over other platforms.

- I have been using Blogger for the last 5 years.Yesterday I posted a blog post with no problems. Today I cannot get into my blogger account. I have to read this lens to find out that Blogger is owned by Google. I didn't know that before. Is that why they recommended that I use google chrome? I refuse to use any google products - not with that new so called Privacy policy they just started.
Anyway I was using IE. So today I downloaded Firefox and am now using that. Why can I still not get into Blogger? So I am moving to Wordpress instead. I hope to import all my blogs across. If Blogger are going to dump me like this, then I will dump them. I just cannot afford to lose the 5 years worth of blog posts I have there. Thank goodness I have Squidoo.

- Google has owned Blogger for years now. You must be using your Gmail address to login to your Blogger account? Can you login to your Gmail?
I don't know if this will be any help but they have some help files for those not being able to sign in:

- I've used WordPress on my self hosted website for about a year. I love it for blogging, but it has limited use as a CMS. I am playing with and learning Joomla. I think it will be better suited for building e-commerce sites.

I had been using NucleusCMS for a long time, but since I moved to Wordpress, it's been my favorite. I think it's the best blog platform online.
