Best Blood Pressure Monitor
There are 3 basic types of monitor fittings and you need to decide which one will fit your needs. The favorite type for personal use are Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors with a large LCD display.
First of all is the Finger Blood Pressure Monitor. There are not many of this type available, this could be due to the reason that they are considered to give the least accurate results. We do not recommmend these for that very reason.
The Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor is the Second type of fitting. They come with an LCD display showing Blood Pressure and Pulse Rate, they are a compact design, therefore great for someone who travels a lot. It comes as a complete unit with a built in automatic Self-Inflating Wrist Cuff, and is powered by Alkaline batteries. In the past, Customer Reviews have not rated the measurement accuracy very well, but some of the newer models with advanced technology are much better in this area.
The Third and most popular model is the Upper Arm fitting, which is the type used by the medical profession. This gives the most accurate readings of all the models. Although most are supplied with AC Adaptors, they can also be powered by batteries, making them very portable. The display unit has a large LCD Screen, enabling easy reading of both Blood Pressure and Heart Rate.
When ready to make a measurement, press the START button and the Arm Band will begin to inflate to a predetermined level. The readings are made as the Cuff is deflating.
The more expensive models have extra features such as up to 200 Memory Storage Locations, and also the ability to save separate sets of readings for 2 people. The best Blood Pressure Monitor have the ability to transfer all readings to your PC. This is made possible with supplied Software and a USB Interface lead. You can back-up all the readings you have ever made, enabling you to monitor trends over a long period of time, and also get a printout of any measurements to pass on to your Doctor.
What does the Display tell you?
When you view a Blood Pressure reading it can be seen as 125/65 (which is pronounced as 125 over 65) The 125 measurement is known as Systolic and is taken at the peak pressure during a heartbeat.
The other measurement of 65 is taken at the lowest pressure (heart resting between beats) - this is known as Diastolic.Blood pressure levels of 120/80 or less are cosidered normal.
We hope that the information in this article will help you decide what type of Monitor and features you would like and enable you to find the best Blood Pressure Monitor to suit your requirements.
