Bulgarian Resorts

All tourists planning their summer holiday in Bulgaria have heard of the most famous Bulgarian resorts like Albena, Golden Sands, Sunny Beach but I would like as a Bulgarian to introduce to the public not only the big ones but also some charming small towns and villages at the Black Sea coast. This way I hope I will help people planning to spend their holiday in Bulgaria with their choice.

A PREVIEW OF SOME BULGARIAN RESORTS

Moving from the North to the South along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast I will try to describe with a few words some of the resorts, their advantages and disadvantages.
  • 1ALBENA is situated in a park and the hotels look like being surrounded by a forest. It was the only Bulgarian resort where no new hotels were built in the last 20 years excluding the ones which were renovated.
    Pluses:
    - A good choice for people who prefer quiet places;
    - A nice sandy beach.
    Minuses:
    - It is a bit to the North and in May and September the water might be 1-2 degrees colder compared to some Southern resorts;
    - Some of the hotels are old and even after rennovation are not comfortable for a holiday.
  • 2GOLDEN SANDS is the biggest and noisiest resort to the North. A lot of new hotels were built in the last years and the old ones were rennovated.
    Pluses:
    - A lot of attractions for the young people;
    - A nice sandy beach;
    - Close to the city of Varna.
    Minuses:
    - Overbuilt;
    - Noisy.
  • 3OBZOR till several years ago used to be nothing but a village where some locals were giving rooms in their houses to tourists but in the last 2-3 years is developing as a resort very quickly.
    Pluses:
    - New hotels of a high quality;
    - One of the best and longest Bulgarian beaches.
    Minuses:
    - No attractions for tourists yet.
    - Far from any bigger towns.
  • 4ELENITE is built 8 km to the North from Sunny Beach at the foothills of the Balkan Mountain. Compared to Sunny Beach is more luxurious but on the other hand is a bit isolated. There is a regular bus line between Sunny Beach and Elenite.
    Pluses:
    - A nice beach;
    - New luxurious hotels.
    Minuses:
    - Isolated from Sunny Beach and its attractions.
  • 5ST. VLAS called also The Bulgarian is a small town just 4 km to the North from Sunny Beach. There was almost no beach but several years ago a lot of sand was brought and the beach became nicer and larger. There is a private yacht port.
    Pluses:
    - Good value for the money;
    - Quieter compared to Sunny Beach.
    Minuses:
    - The beach is too narrow and crowded in the high season (July and August);
    - No comfortable transport from Sunny Beach in the night. Ridiculous prices of taxis.
  • 6SUNNY BEACH is the biggest Bulgarian resort with over 300,000 beds for tourists. Sunny Beach with its both positive and negative sides is a well known brand among the tourists all over Europe. Sunny Beach is built along a 7 km long sandy beach. The Northern part of the resort is more quiet and there are some 4 and 5 star hotels of quite a good quality. The central part is full of attractions and noisy.
    Pluses:
    - A lot of attractions for families and young people;
    - A nice sandy beach.
    Minuses:
    - Noisy;
    - Crowded especially in the high season (July and August);
    - In the last years one of the top destinations in Europe for alcohol tourism.
    - Overbuilt.
  • 7NESSEBAR consists of an old town and a new town. The old town is a small peninsula with historical houses and some small botique hotels. It has almost no beach but is a wonderful place for a walk especially out of the high season. In the high season it looks more like a bazaar which spoils the pleasure of the walk. The new town is an ordinary small town with some blocks of flats and hotels.
    Pluses:
    - Close to Sunny Beach;
    - A wonderful historical part.
    Minuses:
    - No beach;
    - Crowded in the high season.
  • 8RAVDA is a place for a low- budget tourism.
    Pluses:
    - Cheap.
    Minuses:
    - Low quality of hotels;
    - The beach is not very good.
  • 9POMORIE is in the midle of the distance between Burgas and Sunny Beach. In the last years some good 4 and 5 star hotels were built.
    Pluses:
    - Just 10 km from the Airport;
    - Close to the city of Burgas;
    Minuses:
    - The beach is not very nice.
  • 10SOZOPOL consists of an old town ( a small peninsula with traditional style two- storeyed houses) and a new town ( hotels and houses). It is one of the most charming Bulgarian towns, a favourite place for artists.
    Pluses:
    - both rocky and sandy beaches;
    - quiet;
    - a good choice for a family holiday.
    Minuses:
    - None.
  • 11DUNI for me is the best Bulgarian resort - green, wide, with a nice sandy beach, built in a natural reseve.
    Pluses:
    - good hotels;
    - very green.
    - a nice beach
    Minuses:
    - too much separated from civilization and a taxi to Burgas costs a lot;
    - no outside visitors are allowed into the resort, so if you have Bulgarian friends you will have to meet them somewhere out.

    Thank you for your lens! Out of all the resort towns on the Black sea coast, I prefer Sinemorets. So quiet, nice and beautiful.

    Shhhhhhhh! Don't tell them because they will spoil it. One of the few divine places which was not affected much by the overbuilding.
