Polish and Wax to a Mirror-Like Shine Everytime

Just a tiny bit of elbow grease, made a whole lot easier by these best car wax and polishes and the tools that help you do the job.

The news about self-healing paint finishes is roaming the web, but your car doesn't have that yet. The process isn't being used by auto manufacturers and is still in the development stages. So how do you take care of your car's finish to keep it shiny, clean, and glowing like it did when it was new?

Polish then Wax

Best detailing tips

Polishing and waxing your car are not the same thing. Both steps are important to caring for the paint of your vehicle. Polishing should come after washing and before waxing. Polishing preps your car's surface for the waxing step. It buffs out the paint's finish, smoothing and removing the invisible cracks that weather and use cause to arise by filling in those little imperfections.

Waxing puts a protective coat on your finish, saving and preserving all the work you put into cleaning and polishing. Waxing keeps your car's paint cleaner and protected longer. If you wax your car without first polishing, you're trapping dirt and cracks in the paint without first fixing them.

Routine applications of polish and wax will keep your car looking new longer. No matter what you drive, a car is a major expense. Keeping it in great shape protects your investment and will save you money in the long run.

Best Car Wax Polish Instructional Video

All you'll ever need

Here in Arizona, my car spends a lot of time in the sun and when it rains, it generally rains hard. Weather does a lot of damage to the outer layer of our cars' paint, no matter where we live. Road construction, rock chips, and muddy roadways cause contaminates and small particles to adhere to the surface of a vehicle and damage the clear coat applied by the manufacturer. It's your job to protect the exterior and make the paint last longer by countering these effects with proper maintenance.

This is by far the best car detailing instructional video ever. At 10 minutes, it's a little longer than you might be used to, but it's well worth it. Learn how to take out minor abrasions, find the best car wash products, best polish products (including a reference to Mothers polish and wax products), and step by step instructions for applying the final wax step.

Used Cars for Sale Online

Over a million cars to choose from

I spent over three years working with an internet partner with an online vehicle sale website. To say I'm passionate about internet sales is an understatement. Let's just say I'm old enough to remember just a few years ago when folks were pretty adamant cars would never sell on the web. Then came sites like eBay and AutoTrader. Today, millions of cars are listed online every year both by wholesales and retailers. The problem, however, is that you often have to hunt through a number of different sites to find all the cars available in your area.

Now, check out Cars for Sale on Lemonfree. Dealers and private sellers can list their cars - for FREE - on this site and it's brings together cars listed on multiple platforms to give you one easy location to search for cars online.

Polish and Wax Schedule

Recommended guidelines

Depending on the environment in which you live, you shouldn't really need to polish your vehicle more than once or twice a year. If you see your paint is starting to show swirls or if you're car has recently been exposed to some unusual weather or road use (like a long road trip), you may want to detail your car's exterior before any potential damage builds up.

You should wax your car a little more frequently. Once very three months will work for mild environments but you could do so more often. Check the directions of your product to make sure frequent use won't cause any damage, although most products are safe to use more regularly.

Tools That Work

Make life easier

I believe that anything that makes your task easier is a good thing. Hand polishing your car and detailing all of the nooks and crannies can take a lot of time and can be hard on your arms, your back, and your neck. Tools used by the pros can be used by the everyday car owner, too.

Mothers Power Polishing Kit

The king of car detailing, Mothers Polishes, Waxes and Cleaners, know their stuff. Their product line is geared towards high performance automobiles and they've made these materials available to all of us who want to take good care of our vehicles.

This kit includes all the power drill attachments you'll need to shine every inch of the exterior of your car, including their new Power Cone attachment for getting inside the hard-to-reach curves and corners of your wheels.

Power Polish

Best polish for power application

Mothers makes a polish specifically for use with their power cleaning products. Fill in all the tiny fissures that time and sun bring out in your paint by using this product when you're detailing your car. Using this between washing and before waxing will make sure your waxing efforts are worthwhile.

Carnauba Wax

High quality wax product

Carnauba wax comes from the leaves of the carnauba palm tree. The wax contains mostly fatty acids and is hypoallergenic. The resulting material, when applied to paints, provides a super shiny finish. In the demonstration video, the videographer mentions the benefits of using this high quality wax to protect your paint.

Don't forget those windshields. Use tools that save you time and energy.

Great video. I looked for the mothers products at my local Pep Boys and autozone but could not find the power polish compound. Instead, I had to go for the turtle wax polishing compound and the meguiars carnauba wax. Your video really gave me confidence in believing I was doing it right. I didnt hesitate and pretty much ended up with a very satsifying job. Took me about 2 hours to do an entire 1995 acura integra in milano red using a wash, polish, and wax in that order. this is the best site I've visited regarding the process.
