. Try to think of something other than the obvious. A beautiful girl knows she's beautiful and probably has been told so a million times. Try to come up with something else, compliment her on her charm, wits or intelligence. A girl with awesome legs may like to hear something about her gorgeous hair. Pick something that will surprise and please her.

. Girls always like to be complimented on something other than their appearance, be it intelligence, sense of humor or something else. Special skills work well, such as a knack for sports or arts.

. Be as specific as possible. 'You look great' is meant well, but also sounds a bit lame. Pick a detail and complement her on that, the dress, the way she wears her hair, and be original about it.

. Be honest, because women can detect when someone is making fun of her. Avoid smirking.

. Make her feel special. Every woman has other needs and it's your job to find out what she needs to hear. There are a lot of qualities to pick from and she will be pleased to see you took the time to dig deeper than the average guy.

. Go public. Not excessively, but pointing something out in front of a few friends will please her mightily and show your affection for her. You may have to be careful with this with very shy women, though. You don't want to make them feel self-conscious.
